I can't wait for this Sunday, I've been waiting for it for ages now and I've thought about every aspect of it from every angle, I just want the game to hurry up so I can bite my finger nails down and hopefully celebrate afterwards.
I'm actually in a fair bit of doubt about the game and I'll tell you why... * Fergie hasn't fielded the same central midfield in two consecutive games since the end of January against Reading and then Tottenham and even then it was Hargreaves and Carrick, which isn't even the first choice pairing. It always pays to have a bit of consistency going into the big games and whilst it's all well and good having a few top class players to chop and change, it's not always going to come off especially if you come up against a regular well knitted partnership. * The forward line is missing chances galore, Rooney seems off the boil at the minute in my opinion and Tevez hasn't had a run of games in a while so isn't exactly going to be on fire and infact looks a little short on fitness. That leaves a lot of pressure on Ronaldo who doesn't usually play his best in big games.... We might have to rely on a scrappy goal or two and whilst they all count, you don't always want to rest on that possibility e.g. Pompey in the FA Cup. * I'm not sure who the keeper is going to be yet, Foster will be playing against Bolton tomorrow night and then VDS will have a race to get fit for the weekend. Even though I rate Foster highly I'd still rather have the experience of VDS behind the defence in such a big game. There are also other factors such as the form of Torres who has been outstanding as of late and the fact that Rio had a slight back injury at the weekend and could be a bit fragile but believe me, he's needed very muchly. The defence just isn't the same without him on form and with Torres about you don't want to risk it. That being said I have to expect a win what with it being at home but it will be very tight, very very tight. I'll go for Manchester United 1-0 Liverpool. |

Disgrace. This game is on easter sunday, oui? I remember a year ago, Spurs had a uefa game in Sevilla on the Thursday, played on an early ko on saturday and wouldn't let us play on sunday as it was "easter sunday" and the fa or who ever wouldn't move it to the sunday or monday.
Looks like the big 4 rule only happens again |

I'm sure it had nothing to do with it being Easter Sunday...

What about the hype for the weekend just gone? They tried to advertise a day including Fulham vs. Everton and Man City vs. Tottenham as 'Super Sunday'. |

Any two games following eachother on a Sunday is Super Sunday

Pretty much sums-up how I feel, We always just fall sort when playing against the Mancs. I dread this fixture now and it makes going into work hell. Forev has made some good points about the form and fitness of some of the United players, and the form of Torres but that may mean nothing on Sunday if we don't show the correct attitude during the game. We need some of our players like Aurelio, Babel and Lucas to show their integrity and not go missing in such a big game because United will hurt us. |

I can't see Lucas playing this one if Alonso's fit though. Xabi, although still below his achievable standard, is improving and will be important on Sunday. I'd go with the following side:
---------------------------------- Reina ---------------------------------- ------ Arbeloa ------ Carragher -------- Skrtel -------- Aurelio ----- --------------------- Mascherano ------- Alonso ----------------------- ----------- Kuyt --------------- Gerrard ------------- Babel ----------- ---------------------------------- Torres -------------------------------- Subs: Itandje, Riise, Lucas, Benayoun, Crouch The only choice of note is in defence, where i've left out Hyypia. I don't know whether it's just me, but i get this feeling that whilst Hyypia has been in fine shape for us this season Carragher doesn't perform to his best when alongside the Finn. I'd rather see Skrtel there in the centre with him, and Arbeloa on the right. If we don't do that we'll have three centre-backs playing with either Aurelio or Riise, but i'm not overly keen on that. Riise could start though, given the way he usually rises to these games against United (the reverse fixture at Anfield was his only half-decent performance i can remember this season), but i'd be surprised to see Rafa leave Aurelio out now he's gaining a bit of momentum. |

I think Aurelia vs. Ronaldo is a worry. I think Arbeloa might have to switch to whichever side Ronaldo is on. He's stopped him before. He's stopped Messi before as well. The guy can deal with the best.
I think it'll end as a draw. Maybe 0-0 or 1-1. But then again, they could get lucky again. |

If i was rafa i would certainly play Riise as left back over Aurelio. Aurelio will not have the defensive ability to cope with a high flying and inform Ronaldo. Riise has proved up to the challenge of marking Ronaldo on quite a few occasions and is better defensively and stronger, which i think will be important in this match. As Sticky said, Arbeloa would also be a better option considering his display against Messi.

I suppose you could be right there, either that or it's just Carragher out of sorts or carrying an injury. We are looking strong in the centre of denfence so Rafa has the options there. I think you're right about Alonso playing ahead of Lucas but you never know with Rafa. He almost scored from his own half again on Saturday, maybe he will hit the target this weekend |

I wish we had Finnan to be honest, so we could go:
Finnan - Carragher - Skrtel - Arbeloa But that isn't the case... So my guess is it'd probably be: Carragher - Skrtel - Hyypia - Arbeloa/Aurelio If Arbeloa had been playing regularly lately i think he'd start but because he's had a bad injury and hasn't had a run of games i think Rafa will think twice about starting him in this one. He's our best weapon to halt Ronaldo though. |

It has to be said, even though Liverpool form and seasons fluctuate this is still regarded by many as the biggest game of the season be that at Old Trafford or Anfield. So, How do you all see this going? If united get a win, which they must be favourites to do, then they are very much in the driving seat for the title. If Liverpool get a win, well? Could we be back in contention and throw the title race wide open again? File : functions_post.php ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I see it going no other way than to Manchester United. They are strong and will finish the season well ahead(a few points |

My pick for the United team would be:
----------------------------------- VDS --------------------------------- ------ Brown ------ Ferdinand ----------- Vidic ------ Evra ------- ------------------------- Hargreaves/Fletcher ---------------------- --------------- Scholes/Andershow------------ Carrick------------ ------ Ronaldo ------------------------------------------ Nancy ------ --------------------------------- Rooney ------------------------------- I know that I've been slightly critical of Fergie for using the 4-3-3/4-5-1 formation but considering our lack of options up front I reckon that this is the most secure option to oppose Liverpool's players through the middle of the pitch. |
