David Beckham has been recalled to the England squad for the friendly international against France on Wednesday.

It presents the former captain with the opportunity to win his 100th cap after he was left out of Fabio Capello's first game in charge against Switzerland.

So is Walcott. But only to the 30 man preliminary squad. Capello has to dwindle that number down for the match itself.

I'd laugh if Beckham was excluded after the cut.

Just let him play in the last few minutes and then we can finally lay this 100th cap saga to bloody rest.

Great talent, yes, i agree he was. But he sold his career, and that's the bottom line - if he cared about playing football he would have stayed in Europe and played for a quality said (which he would still be able to do), and got his cap through merit. The American league is of a terribly poor quality and no performance in that league can warrant his selection.

He made the choice to go to America for various reasons and he should live with it. You can't have things both ways.

absolutely right Ben.

what do we gain as a football team with him in the line up? not enough anymore. will he still be playing in 2010? that is what we need to be looking forward to.

i stand by everything i said in my Sky TV rant.

Get the hell out Ben, you think you can only play for England if you play in Europe? That is plain stupid. Talent, skill etc should come first not where you play your trade. There was a time if you played for one of the lesser clubs it would hinder your chances of playing for England which finally is beginning to change. Glad to see Wheater from the Boro being included in the squad.

A squad needs a balance of young players, skillful players and experience.

You'd think he was dying or something. Come on the man is 32 not 62. He's got about 4 or 5 years left at the top level, maybe more if he is like Teddy.

Again the English management team crumble under pressure from the media! Hasn't Capello watched Sky News in the past few months??

As some of the above has said, he is not the way forward. Come 2010, he will have nothing to offer the England team and the likes of Bentley, Lennon & Wright-Phillips will have developed even more. These games should be used to give young hopeful players a chance to prove they have what it takes at the big stage. Not to give attention seeking has beens the chance to fulfill personal goals

Agree with Monty Mole. Brazilian players like kaka and dida etc should stay in south america then?

Thats not what Ben is saying. European leagues are far more competitive than the rest of the world. Thats why players such as Kaka & Dida, as G_Man mentioned, go to Europe to showcase their talent. Beckham going to the MLS was for money and the showbiz life that he and his stickbitch crave so much. If he had cared about playing for his country so much, he could have went to another club where he'll have to rise to the challenge. Playing in the MLS is like an early retirement for him, regardless of what he says. Don't beleive all this "I want to help make the MLS and leading force in world football" pish

Beckham is still good and we all know it. Yeah he plays against weeker opposition every week but people know fine well he can still do a job for england because we know what he is capable of.

But if england are not going to play a system where they have crosses coming in then no he should not play.

well all signs at the moment show that Capello did not pick Becham out of sentiment just so he could win his 100th cap ....this friendly is probably a good chance for him to see Beckham play and judge whether he still can do the business for England .. If he had wanted to give Beckham his 100th cap out of sentiment he would have played him against Switzerland i would have thought .

If you are good enough and playing well i dont see how what club you are at or how old you are should matter ....these scouts of Capello and his staff are not idiots i would assume so the inclusion of Beckham in any future squad will be because he has deserved to be in them ..

I agree though he should have moved to another club in europe ...or even stayed at Real Madrid ...they did want him to stay .

Are there any other players in this team for this game against France or is just Beckham.
