Man Utd simply outclassed Liverpool - I can't add much more to what has already been said in all fairness. I do have one point to make though, about the Mascherano red card in particular...WHERE WAS THE CAPTAIN??!!! Seriously, it's bad enough to see "world class" Stevie G regularly disappearing in these types of matches, but he should have at least been right in there to stop Mascherano confronting the ref; and after the red card was issued, he should have led him off the pitch to restore some order. Instead he was nowhere to be seen! Total lack of leadership and responsibilty.

The biggest blame must laid at Mascherano though. As someone said earlier in this thread, it was almost like he was trying to get himself sent off. Torres was unlucky to get booked, I must admit, but that doesn't excuse Mascherano running 20 yards to talk to the ref, pushing away Xabi Alonso in the process. It was a small straw, but it the final straw which broke the camel's back. He was walking a very thin tightrope before the incident: he made a bad challenge on Scholes, mouthed off after getting the yellow card (clearly telling Bennett to fcuk off, twice), committed a couple more fouls (after the first one he again tells Bennett to fcuk off, twice again!) and finally the red card after running 20 yards to argue. I don't like Steve Bennett because he's one of those referees you can't talk to and he has an air of arrogance about him, but this is totally Mascherano's fault. Benitez's reaction said it all - he knew his player lost control.

erm.. he's beyond the visible area on the screen.. so guess he should've been standing quite a distance.. but even if he ran in time to try to grab mascherano.. it'd also still be too late already.. bennett seemed to keep his eyes on him.. more like his attitude.. since the first booking.. and even alonso could hardly do anything as he seemed as if being.. erm.. uncontrolled?.. -.-?

You're missing the point, Flipper. If Mascherano can run 20 yards to argue then why couldn't Steven Gerrard run to calm the situation down? Whenever you have these sort of flare ups almost always you'd expect your captain to be in there, either restraining his own players, or arguing with the ref personally. You see it all the time from the likes of John Terry, and Rio Ferdinand, and previously from Keane and Vieira. Leaders that are respected.

In any case, Gerrard should have told Mascherano to calm down way before the incident occured, as it was clear as daylight that the Argentine was very close to a red card.

yeah.. i saw in a horror when he approached bennett after the booking for torres.. dunno what's happening to him.. but the incident itself also took a few minutes to dismiss.. consider a tough one.. he refused to walk straight out of pitch and even rafa himself needed to calm him down in the end..

well.. i was unhappy to see ferdinand being booked for nothing big deal.. but then glad he didn't do anything like mascherano.. guess mascherano shocked everyone indeed..

I only saw the first half of this one, but from what i could see United were in complete control of the game. And could have been cut and dry had Rooney have found his composure and shooting boots early on.
Just to add my opinion on the Mascherano incident, I think a red card was justified to be perfectly honest. After his first yellow card he could be seen telling Bennet to f off more than once, which is enough to get sent off there and then. He then continually seemed to question the referee's decision despite being on this yellow card and it was just sheer stupidity to sprint across the pitch to question the referee once more despite what was actually said.

Sorry lad but thats garbage. Rolling Eyes

Pepe on his day is a fantastic keeper. This wasnt so long ago

Reina - currently with the Spain squad due to play France - became the fastest keeper in Liverpool's history to make it to 50 clean sheets in the 3-0 Premier League win over Sunderland on Saturday.

Wow, he sounds rubbish Rolling Eyes

I don't think he's close to the best in the world, and i'm not sure if i would have him in my top 10. He would be close though.

Buffon
Cassilas
James
Boruc
Palop
Cesar
Gomes
Coupet
Frey
van der Saar
Cech
Hildebrand

Are arguably all better.

With most of them it's close, and just down to differing opinions with. But he is a long way off of Cassilas and Buffon in my opinion.

He is only young though, and to be up there with the best is a great achievement.

Hang on. So Pepe had a few hairy moments so he's automatically dubbed rubbish? Forgetting the class saves? Obviously.

Have a word with yourself forev fgs Rolling Eyes

Very Happy I was saving that since May 2007, had to get it in!

The best keeper in the world never puts performances like that in, but we all know that he isn't and never has been the best anyway. Although fair play he recovered well and pulled off some fantastic saves, too bad it was already too late.

Not true. I've seen Cech put in much worse performances since the head injury, and many still regard him as the best in the world.

Reina certainly isn't the best in the world, but he is a good goal keeper.

Lol, not with his finishing. He did well to create chances for others and himself, but his finishing was woeful. His finishing has always been poor for a striker of his reputation though, so it's not surprising he didn't add to the humiliation, even with the one on ones he had.

For that i'm grateful, because we really could've received a spanking.

Go easy on me? Please. Would you go into a knife fight with a spoon? Don't even try and bring an Everton Liverpool debate my way lad because I more than know my history, you're not talking to one of the oot reds now lad.

As for this thread, I came in here to give an honest assesment of the threat topic after the fact. You and your "delcious" comments show you are here to gloat over a victory by another team. Pathetic. You couldn't wait to get those manc pics up with your little tag lines.

Mascherano showed passion, misplaced yes but passion none the less.

I have nothing to sulk about, if you bother to read my posts I'm not here blaming anyone other than Liverpool for their own downfall, of course reading my post would get in the way of what you are here to do. None of you are bitter though eh? (just before someone kicks off that was not to say all Blues are bitter).

Rather Macherano's passion that Gerrard's acceptance of the result from the first minute practically.

I'm obsessed with Everton yet you have have an avatar with Reina in it, you have posted more in a Liverpool United thread than most reds and you even have "hates Liverpool" (very mature by the way) in your teams supported.

"Good lad."

Blob on that lad, I just said as much myself.

Gerrard is not a leader and should not be the Captain of Liverpool Football Club and I have held that opinion from day one. He is insecure and needs to be constantly loved, he turns against every manager, he acts like he is bigger than the club and he almost left for Chelsea because he didn't feel wanted (not that the money and chance of the title didn't factor in).

Capello is not stupid and Gerrard will not be his captain.

Delicious means what? It is a word used to express an immense delight of something. You are taking delight in our misery vicariously through United's win and guess what that makes you?

My god lad my team just got wellied 3-0 and I still have more respect for the opposition than you have for Liverpool.

I spoke of respect in my first post and you have a clear lack of it. I also mentioned I only give respect up until the point where I don't get it. Is calling someone an "RS" (Red Shite) respect is it? Is speaking to them in that condescending manner of yours respect?

Friendly banter? Please you won't even enter into discussion about football with me despite the fact I made a post that was thought out and unbias.

You arn't in this thread for any other reason than to get your kicks at Liverpool's expense so please don't talk to me about being a "good lad and" cite forum etiquette as a reason we should put up with your constant bitterness.

Who would you have as captain Wtebar? There is no one better qualified in my opinion. Yes, Gerrard showed [beep!] all yesterday. He has gone missing in big games far to often recently. It looked as if he new from the off that we would not win, and conceeded defeat very early on. However, to say there is a better candidate in the squad is simply untrue. If you were to mention our vise-captain Carragher, who always shows heart etc, then i would say nope. I cant see him being a regular for much longer. i cant wait for agger to return to get some class on the ball at the back.
