I also think Adebayor is one of the most overrated players on our roster and in the league. Don't get me wrong; he's had a fantastic season. However, his first touch is regularly dreadful. How many times has he screwed a beautiful pass from Fabregas or Flamini? How many times has that mistake cost the beginning of very threatening counter attack. I think he gives us something we were missing when we had Henry, a vertical presence. But, we lost so much with technique. Adebayor is not capable of just taking the ball down the field and scoring. He has to be in the 18 yd box. Someone has to feed it to him. He's not the greatest finisher with his feet either and that has cost us numerous times.

excellent point.

this is something i have been saying since his arrival in England and something i fully believe.

after his little bit of form the adebayor love-in went crazy, i stuck to my guns and it appears his fortune has ended and reality is dawning.

its a pleasure to see an Arsenal fan echo my thoughts. well done sir.

I've been saying it too Hill so stop blowing your trumpet! I also vaguely recall saying Adebayor has gone up in your estimation and retracted your earlier critiscisms of him

Definitely not 'Big 4' standard. Then again, if he played in a 'lesser' team, the chances he gets wouldn't come so frequently and this goal rush would dry up.

i never retracted a thing...

i have already said that Adebayor seems to be proving me wrong although its dificult to make a comparison with a player who is in the form of his life with a player who is struggling with injuries and is not being given a decent run in the team.

i dont believe i said Ashton was better im sure i said i would prefer Ashton to partner Bellamy in our attack than Adebayor. i stand by that certainly. a headbutting arrogant mercenary is not who i would like to see fronting my team thanks. there is no doubt Adebayor is playing well but can he keep it up? i would be extremely suprised.

to compare him to Drogba is drastically premature in my view as the basics such as control, touch and simple passes are missing all too often from Adebayor's game. its easy to look blindly at the fact he has scored a lot in recent games but many of the chances are on a plate through excellent team work and superb build up play. he wouldnt get that at West Ham as an example. Drogba also wouldnt get as many chances at Chelsea i dont feel which is shown by the lack of goals in his absence this season and the need for them to dip into the transfer market and his overall game is far superior to Adebayor's.

That is what i said.

at the time he was proving me wrong. however as i pointed out, it was simply down to him being in the form of his life not that he is top class and can consistently do it.

I've never liked Adebayor. Since the first day I joined this site, I've always said I didn't like him. I did however give him praise during his 9 game run of 11 goals or something along those lines. But as a whole, I still don't like him and think we can do much better in the striker department (either from developing some of our younger strikers, or going out and buying one). I still think Bendtner will become a better striker than Adebayor in due time as long as he continues to work hard at his game.

I think Adebayor is big 4 standard. Easily.

He hasn't been in the ebst of form lately, but he did wrongly get a goal disallowed against Boro.

He has been better than almost all of the other strikers for the big 4 this season, so i don't think it's fair to say he isn't big 4 standard.

torres.. Rooney.. drogba..

yeah.. that's three only..

i've always been saying that the fourth one doesn't deserve to be in the top-scorer list.. as he hardly does anything to earn his goals.. he's just always happened to be at the right position and the right time.. Sad

You've lost your mind. You know damn well I have always hated Adebayor; and Eboue; and yes Senderos. And I critique each and every one of them a lot.

I praised Adebayor during his good run of form, but he's still not on the top of my list. And I've praised Senderos over his good run of form while Toure was gone. And Eboue, I've always hated him, hate him the most.

Again, you choose not to read my whole post. What part of this ... "I praised Adebayor during his good run of form, but he's still not on the top of my list. And I've praised Senderos over his good run of form while Toure was gone." do you not understand.

I've never rated Adebayor either. As said, his first touch is appalling, his heading and passing ability is questionable and he isn't as quick as everyone thinks he is.
The biggest problem with him is he needs 5 chances to score one. I have always felt he was our plan B, certainly not our main striker - he just isn't good enough. I can never understand why TV pundits rave about him. Or Wenger, come to that.
I think Wenger's policy of making unknowns into great players is fantastic but every now and then, you need to buy quality when it is on offer. If we had Torres, we would still be top now and in control of the PL. Adebayor is one unknown too many.
With all the talk of Palladino, Robinho etc; I hope it is Adebayor that is offloaded to accommodate one of them.

Adebayor is a quality striker, definitely top four standard. Give the guy a break!

It's his first full season in the Arsenal team and he's scored 23 goals in 36 games, 19 in the league. Yeah he's on a bad run of form but class is permanent and I'm sure he'll regain the scoring touch.

It should be noted that Adebayor's decline in form has also seen his team's results suffer. He is largely responsible for Arsenal being at the top of the table for so long this season. Fabregas gets loads of attention because he is a quality player, but Adebayor's contribution has been every bit as good.

Everyone creams their pants over Drogba, yet he was diabolical in his first season in England. Adebayor will get even better, I'm sure.

I disagree, I dont think he is as good as his form thsi season suggests. Put him in a team like Sunderland and he would struggle to score as opposed to say Rooney, Drogba, Torres, Van Persie, who would still score freely.

You don't know that, it's purely hypothetical. We can only judge him on what he's done for his team and in that regard he has had an excellent first full season, playing most of the matches as a lone striker which increases the burden on him to score, and until lately he's managed to do that.

Everyone's just jumping on the bandwagon now he's hit a rocky patch. He'll be back firing again soon, just watch.

I didnt say it was fact, its my opinion.

And I was saying it before his current slump, which is nothing anyway just a handful of games.

Well let me just say that as Spurs fans, we've seen first hand on three separate occasions this season how devastating he can be.

But we'll agree to disagree - I rate him but you don't.
