Scottish Star joins Ladies

Arsenal Ladies Scottish contingent has been added to in the form of Kim Little , an exciting 17 year old midfielder who has already won full caps for her country. Kim made her Gunners debut against Leeds United on Sunday March 2nd 2008 , and hopes are high that she will flourish in Vic Akers side.

Vic said " We've watched Kim a few times and been very impressed with her - the last time being when England played Scotland last May. She's bright , a competitor , good passer of the ball and a real injection of youth into the team".

Kim , whose previous club was Hibernian , joins Julie Fleeting - who has smashed the 100 - cap and 100 - goal marks for her country - in Arsenal Ladies Scottish ranks.

This sounds like Kim could be staying.

I see they all have squad numbers, and 1 to 25 are filled, apart from 5.

I want Leanne Champ back at the club! I've seen her recently watching from the stands at Boreham Wood. Can't understand why she left the club in the first place.

Less than two months after joining Arsenal Ladies , Kim Little has her first piece of Silverware.

The 17-yr-old headed south from Hibernian at the beginning of March and earned her first start for the club three weeks later. She has missed just one league game since.

Little is already a Scotland International. She is an assured performer and has a football intellect far beyond her years. Put that alongside undoubted natural ability and it's no surprised that her manager has emarked her for a bright future.

"She's bright , a competitor , good passer of the ball and a real injection of youth into the team , " Vic Akers said when Little joined.
And after he watched his most recent acquisition bag a goal at Emirates Stadium as Arsenal clinched their 10th league title , he added "make a note of this kid , she is going to be a big player.

Little certainly has time on her side. But it appears she has already set her stall out.

" I came to Arsenal to win league titles and other trophies. I had won titles in Scotland with Hibs , but to do it with Arsenal in England is superb " , she said.

The match against Chelsea was really exciting for me. I haven't been here long and I had the chance to play at Emirates Stadium. I have been to the stadium before , but not to play. It was all a bit weird walking through the tunnel before the match !

I couldn't believe it when I found out. I worked hard in training and was really happy to be picked. But I got focused on the game and tried not to play the occasion too much ".

And what about her goal ? " Kelly ( Smith ) did really well and played it in for me. I saw it coming across and was just hoping I wouldn't sky it over. Thankfully I think I was too close in to do that !"

Little demonstrates an endearing willingness tolearn both on and off the field. Akers revealed that she would continue her education at university next season while on the pitch she admits that her game has already improved.

" It's a lot different from the way we play in Scotland , just so much quicker. I have been playing in a holding midfield role which I have enjoyed" , she explained.

" Also having some of the best players in the world around you makes it easier to play ".

After their title success , Arsenal are now aiming for a domestic Double. Little though , won't be able to aid that cause.

" I can't play in the FA Cup Final because I didn't sign in time. So I am a bit gutted ".

She needn't worry. It is easy to assume that Little will have plenty more chances to ger her hands on the FA Cup in the future.

From Evening Express

Kim gunning for perfect end to super season

Mintlaw teenager Kim Little is living her dream after signing for Europe's biggest women's team.

The 17 year old was snapped up by Arsenal LAdies and has already established herself as a first team regular.

After winning the English league title in her debut season with the Gunners , the North East youngster is now aiming to help steer Scotland into the European Championships.

Kim will line up for the Scots against Ukraine Wednesday at McDiamond Park in a crucial qualifier for next year's event in Finland.

And she reckons anything less than maximum points will see their qualification hopes end.

Kim said : " Ukraine will be a very tough game , but there is a real confidence in the squad that we can get a result.

" We need to win to keep alive our qualifications hopes.

The last time we played them we lost 2-1 and should probably have won the match as we had a lot of the play.

After this match we still have Slovakia later in the summer in the final qualifier ".

Kim , who joined the Gunners from Hibs earlier this year , will link up with club mate Julie Fleeting for the Scots.

Fleeting has made more than 100 aooerances for the Scots and led the Gunners to Uefa Cup glory.

Kim said: "Playing for Arsenal Ladies is a dream come true and I have already picked up a league winner's medal.

Arsenal are one of the biggest women's team in Europe and beat Umea IK of Sweden to win the Uefa Cup last season.

I am regularly facing some of the best players in the world in the premier division.

It has been a great season so far , and helping Scotland closer to the European finals would be the ideal way to end it "

Kim is a phenomenal player. Should Kelly leave for the WPS, she is good enough to take over right now as the team playmaker.
