Mascherano was stupid because he should have known that after the Cole incident and after the FA were promoting RESPECT, referees were going to tighten up their tolerance on players who backchat. And Mascherano had the biggest say in the game, not Bennett: fcuk off, fcuk off, fcuk off, fcuk off and fcuk off once more for luck!!!

I'm sick of people saying that the referee ruined the match, it's total bullsh!t. His job is to referee the game, not to make sure the game is a spectacle. If the players step out of line - like Mascherano clearly did - then he has to apply the rules. For Mascherano: a yellow for the late tackle, and another yellow for the constant flow of backchat and arguing shown to the referee. Nothing wrong with that at all. I agree that Torres shouldn't have been booked - few would argue that he deserved it.

Liverpool fans should think themselves lucky though, because Carragher could easily have got a red card if Rooney went down early on in the match. Also, Torres could easily have had a second yellow.

As for Torres getting the sh1t kicked out of him, it's nonsense. Rio gets the ball in his first challenge, it's only the second one where he nudges him. But it was only a foul - nothing more.

No, he didn't. If that was him having lumps kicked out of him then he must have it extraordinarily easy every other game.

You make it sound like it was GBH!

Watch the video, about 30 seconds in. Rio nicks the ball, it's clear unless you're Stevie Wonder.

The referee ruined the tie. The sending off effectively nullified Inter as an attacking threat and handed the impetus to Liverpool to surge forward. Even then, it took an injury to the unbeatable Ivan Cordoba to expose Inter's defensive centre. A deflected opening goal but great strike by Gerrard I'll give him credit for that.

This tie is over but I'll reserve giving credit to Liverpool. The referee spoiled the match as a contest.

Two different games, smart arse!!

In the latter, the referee was wrong to send off Materazzi - even the English commentators admitted that. Hence the referee incorrectly sent off the Italian and had ruined the match himself.

In the Man Utd game, he was right to send of Mascherano, hence he didn't ruin the tie - Masch did.

Nice try Wink

Anyone who isn't a manc have a view on just taking all the passion out of our game?

Oh and before anyone brings up that joke of an arguement for Rugby, I suggest you actually play the game to understand it and then watch it.

I wonder if these mancs were so upright when Keane and his boys were chasing every ref in the country round the pitch? Some how I doubt it.

Bennett refereed the game well?

I give up.

Just in case you don't know, I'm a Spurs fan. In fact, I hate Man Utd!

I'm just saying it as I see it. Liverpool can't have any complaints really, in my opinion.

I'm done on this thread now.

Materazzi was sent off for fouling a player consistently. Personally I didn't think it warranted a sending off and the ref could have been more lenient but at least there was a foul there to judge upon. Mascherano was sent off for asking "what's happening?".

Of course, the ref didn't spoil the game at all for sending a player off for nothing.

Bennett lost the plot. Rolling Eyes

No he wasn't stupid, and why should any player have to worry about a totally unrelated incident going into a massive game? He was stupid not to leave the pitch but I can understand his anger.

You watch any Prem game and if you don't see someone repeatedly tell the ref to [beep!] off then you are lying basically.

His job is to enforce the laws of the game WHEN they are necessary. If every player from now on gets sent off for swearing at the ref or arguing decisions then not one prem game is ending with 11 v 11.

Rooney DIDN'T go down did he? So this is totally irrelevant.

Torres could have had a second yellow? You've clearly got some agenda against Liverpool in this one because you are now being ridiculous.

Torres was gettin' the [beep!] kicked out of him all game. If that was Berbatov you would soon have something to say.

Funny how everyone is always "unbias" except when we come into the equation.

You may hate United but you clearly have an agenda on Liverpool from your posts. You refuse to acknowledge anything in a positive light about Liverpool.

Apperently we were lucky only one of our players was sent off for a nothing incident that happens in every game and we were lucky Rooney didn't go down and even better than Torres wasn't sent off with Mascherano.

Not only can't we get people to see sense on the first issue, they now want to bring up things Bennett might have missed which were even more inconspicous than the subject matter!

Brilliant.

Oh and I especially loved the "Liverpool supporting" mate analysis of "if I put my hand in a crocs mouth I expect to get bitten".

The fact that your mind was already made up (whoever it was that said it) is obvious by your reaction to and subsequent use of this utterance.

Ironically you are spot on. See crocs are twats. Give them half a chance and they will have you. They will not assess a situation and show forethough they will just do what they do naturally.

Since Bennett is the biggest homer in the world he did exactly that.

Thanks for backing up the point.
