Cristiano Ronaldo without a dout. Kaka and Messi are tremendous players but when you judge a player you have to look at all kinds of atributes. For me Ronaldo is a more complete player and the fact in can play as stricker and wings. He as strenght, flair, pace, great header of the ball, out of this world technical ability, exquisite free kick take and is only 22 and please tell me the other too are that complete!

surely the best player in the world should be able to perform against the very best teams. I am yet to see Ronaldo play well against Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal. I have only seen him play really well against a poor performing Roma in the Champions League against one of Europes top clubs. Against every other team, he destroys them, but surely the best player in the world should be able to do it against the best, something both Messi and Kaka have proven to be able to do. He might be the best player on current form, but i would not say he is the best player in the world, just maybe playing the best.

Fair point but unfortenely I do not agree that playing well against stronger teams only as a main thing for a world class player. Concistency IS!

Just for the record in case theres any doubt:

Cristiano Ronaldo
Real name Cristiano Ronaldo

Thats 203 app for united scoring 78 goals thats nearly 1 goal every 2nd game.

Now Kaka stats:

Averaging 1 goal every 4 matchs

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lionel_Messi

To be fair with messi is stats are pretty good and he is younger than Ronaldo BUT ask me if I was pulling any of the 3 of them out of the bench to change a game around and torment and cause fear in the opposition defence theres defenetly only one RONALDO!

PS Can anyone tell me why I cant see my avatar?!

He was born in Madeira? Jesus well then he must be the best I guess.

I hope your being sarcastic Rolling Eyes.
This season ronaldo has no doubt , been the best player in the world , however , in a few seasons maby even next season , or as soon as the guy can get a season with out a bad injury , messi will shine more than ronaldo IMO

I think a defensive midfield player is as valuable as an attacking one because the attacking is unlikely to get the ball back if someone does not do it for him.

Even if you are right with that logic, you cant deny that makalele hasnt contributed this seasons as much as ronaldo in any way shape or form.

In any case, just saw highlights from MOTD - showed that ronaldo's goals scored/per game this year has very nearly bettered Alan Shearer's record...

the guy has been nuts this year.

it's not even a matter of opinion ,it's a matter of fact.
if a player can't perform consistently against the top clubs he' is not a great .I don't think that is an unfair
way to base a players ability ,it's the most logical one.One day maybe Ronaldo will make me eat my words as he seems to be learning how to make intelligent decisions on the filed concerning his passing, but that is not this year and it wasn't last year when he won player of the year.

But the thing is, Ronaldo has been doing the business in the big games this season. So that excuse is wearing increasingly thin.

have to say ronaldo by a mile this season, 37 goals says why.
seen ronaldinho amd messi in the flesh this season and both were brilliant but for consistency, and goals and assists ronaldo is number 1.
Anyone know how many assists ronaldo has this season?

really!

Ok let's see.
against the top 4 so far which we can call Arsenal,Chelsea,Liverpool and Everton.,and let's throw man city in there too as it classes as a big game.
Ronaldo has scored 4 goals.
two against Everton and one against 10 man Liverpool.

Now what big games are you talking about. His best performance since he's been in the prem was against Liverpool with 10 men where he got a couple of assists with his goal i think.

You can call that a big time player if you wish ,but i guess we all have our own standards eh!

Well seeing as you seem to be the footballing god, how has Messi & Kaka done in the big games this year? You obviously arn't classing Champions League football as 'big games' either, I wonder who's the top scorer in that

Based on current form:

(1) Ronaldo
(2) Messi
(3) Torres
(4) Rio Ferdinand
(5) Titus Bramble

Only someone lacking in intelligence bases a players greatness on the goals scored, Ronaldo is a midfielder and yet in the Champions League he has no assists. You could quite easily give best player in the world credit to a defender or a goalie. But such is the retarded thought process that decides these awards that may never happen again. The total lack of sophistication and the complete submission to sensationalism and hype has controlled a lot of what goes on today. The big games in the Champions League are those that teams have the most to loose in.Maybe Ronaldo's goals came in games that were not knock out stages or the like. What was the level of opposition? etc theres a lot of criteria that goes into it.Some can't be bothered to delve into the facts surrounding these things but i question his greatness.
When i see him him carry a team on his own like Drogba did for much of last season then i will give him Credit.Ronaldo's must be given credit for his goals he's scored ,but you can't ignore the stats i have mentioned above and not second guess his true ability.

As for you mentioning Messi and Kaka.
Messi who i like a great deal is in my eyes a better player than Ronaldo as i think he is more effective in big games ,i don't think i would give Messi the award before Ronaldo this year as Messi has been injured a lot of the time.Kaka has never been classed as great by me,he a good player but as you saw against two games v Arsenal he was nothing, and that just backs me up.Those player you want to call great has to perform against those teams.

Look,i don't respect the a lot of these awards given out as i believe they are bogus ,but given the crtieria already set by the organizations it's obvious Ronaldo will win the prem title and the Fifa title too.
If they would take into account the quality of the team he plays for.How he has performed in the big matches. How his team does without him etc then i would give it a lot more credit, but it is what it is.Bogus and unsophisticated, it's comic book fodder.

Just the fact that Ronaldo would never make it on an Arsenal team should tell you he likes the right qualities to considered great.

BEST PLAYER IN THE WORLD
