ok the spl isn't the best league in the world.... but many players in the spl would get first team football in the top 10 EPL teams.... anyway as a celtic fan , i dont think hesselink is great anyway , hes just the type of player who sits in the box and waits for the ball to land at his feet or head.. if i was manager i wouldn't have him in celtic's main team , id play samaras and mcdonald ahead of him

Babel will be great once he learns to use his left foot. It's very easy right now to defend him; prevent him from moving inside with his right and push him out wide and make him use his left foot and you shut him down.

He has the pace and strength to cause havoc in any league, it's just a matter of learning to use that left foot of his.

It's all well and good talking about Babel in his Ajax days, but he was young and looked very bright as a footballer. Any mistakes would have been looked on as a sign of immaturity and his promise would shine through over all. I don't think he's progressed as everyone thought he would have, he hasn't cemented a place in the Dutch national team as he has been in and out, Van Basten speaks highly of him but he would. I certainly don't think he's first XI quality right now.

Of course Yessica is going to get protective over one of her homegrown talents but nobody is writing him off, all that's been said and agreed is that he hasn't looked as good as the hype which surrounded him. If he was really though of that highly there would have been more teams tripping over themselves last summer.

But we shall see in the years to come, that's why I love football Smile

Hardly a hammering. Last week at Old Trafford was a hammering, yesterday was but a convincing victory over a depleted Everton.

only read a few of the posts here none on the previous page to this so forgive me if i repeat what others have said.

Good game for Liverpool even though at times the the play lacked the usual excitement.Good to see Gerrard actually do something as opposed to his previous games.Babel had a stinker today, but he will recover.
In contrast to some other so called "best players on the planet",Torres is the real deal he has consistently performed in big games.I am eager to see how he does against Arsenal and Chelsea for a real test, but from what i can see he should be one of the most exciting players next season.

yakubu should have got a yellow for diving and Everton needed Cahill in this game he could have changed the outcome.I think Fernandes should have been on the filed earlier if Pienaar was still not healthy.

Anyway well done l'pool you's deserved it by far.... Well... looks like we're fighting for 5th place now. Onwards and Upwards.

My last post in this thread due to wetbar saying some nasty sh|t about Evertonians..... Calls himself a scouser. Rolling Eyes

ps... Did anyone see that flag/message at the start of the game?

"Welcome to Merseyside Liverpool supporters"

Classic and says it all really! Laughing

You just can't stop can you. Your biterness knows no ends. You were told to leave it alone and so was I, I did but you couldn't.

In the interests of fair play, here is my riposte.

The most noise we heard from your lot was when you got a corner or the boring Gerrard song which I am glad to say he seems well and truly over. (Good on you Stevie lad).

If I was a blue I'd be embarrased to come on here mocking reds after that. If I did come on here (and it would be touch and go after the shite you came out with) I'd keep my head down.

How does your very simple mind come up with I can't be a scouser because I put Everton down (when it is called for) but you do nothing but put Liverpool down and think you are top jolly scouse?

Classic? It took your moronic fans about 5 minutes to even unfurl the thing and when it was we laughed AT you and then decimated your "team".

Just one last thing:

[beep!] off to Kirkby, the city's all ours.

Nice win Cool

Skrtel was great. Babel needs to work on his crossing. Never really threatened by Everton to a high degree of difficulty Smile

With a better goal difference we should be able to seal the Champions League spot Smile

The Bluenoses will be safe for a UEFA spot if Pompey can win the cup this season or if they finish 5th Confused

It was a game of two halves. Sorry to use the old cliche but it was.

Liverpool in the first half were exactly what they should and need to be on these occassions. We were first out of the blocks, we moved the ball with an accuracy and a tempo that made Everton second best from the off. We looked to attack with pace and power and we got our deserved rewards very early on. The rest of the half we continued in the same vein but couldn't add to our lead.

The second half we allowed Everton into the game more and Lucas was there for show more than anything towards the end. This allowed Everton to get some sort of foothold in midfield. Our back four were immense though and nothing was getting through them that day.

We should have won by more but 1-0 is a result I will take every time in a game such as that. I still think we were a bit too easy on Everton second half but as I say the result was all important and our defensive display makes up somewhat for the lack of intent towards the end.

I am forced to ask though, were was this passion at Old Trafford? I won't dwell on that too much though.

Reina - makes things a lot more complicated than they are at times but overall came away with a clean sheet and there's no more you can ask from a keeper.

Riise - Had one of his best games in a Liverpool shirt. Controlled the left side both defensively and going forward and started more than a few moves with simple passes and effective movement between him and Babel.

Hyypia - He's just Hyypia. The man is a Liverpool legend and once again cemented his greatness with a fine defensive performance. It doesn't matter who we play, who he plays next to or what the occassion, you just always know what you are going to get from Sami Hyypia. Pure class.

Skrtel - What a find this lad is. He has all the aerial dominance of big Sami but that "everything is mine" attitude of Carra. He is going to make for a very special defender indeed. Once again, hats off to Rafa and our scouting department for yet another great find. I wonder who spotted this lad.

Carra - Won everything that was anywhere near him. Totally dominated the right hand side and put in some very tasty challenges indeed. Class.

Babel - formed a nice little understanding with Riise with both making clever movement off the ball which led to some dangerous attacks for Everton to deal with. I would still like him to be a bit more confident in his ability to go past a man but there is no doubt the potential is there for all to see. Surely only a matter of time before he hits the next level.

Alonso - Not quite up to his best but the signs are there that he is improving. Made some good challenges and provided some clever and effective cover. Still the odd uncharacteristic misplaced pass creeping in to his game but overall I am pleased and satisfied he is going the right way.

Lucas - started well, covered a lot of ground and provided some nice supporting runs in some of our attacks. Towards the end of the game he was merely a spectator and I was surprised he wasn't taken off.

Gerrard - Put in a captain's performance and showed all the drive, passion and determination that was lacking at Old Trafford. His vision was what made him stand out from the rest of the side though. When it came to our attacks it was he and unbelievably Riise who were really instigating them. Gerrard showed us the full array of his passing and was practically untouchable in his attacking midfield role. An excellent performance in a team of mainly excellent performers.

Kuyt - judging his performance by it's own merits he was excellent at what he can and does offer. Tireless effort, closing down of players, providing a diluted but present threat from the right. I like the lad but the fact remains, his is an area we could vastly improve upon and even at his best this shows.

Torres - What more can you say about this lad? Every high hopeful hoof is a counter attack when he is around. His Attitude, work rate and perseverance are phenomenal. He never believes he is second best to anything and when the chance came he took it. You can't possibly ask for any more than what this lad gives. As someone in the Kop said "He would be cheap at double the price."

Man of the Match - Skrtel. It was a very tough decision but I just feel when Everton were allowed into the game and tried to get a real foothold in the game it was Skrtel who in a very no nonsense way drove home the fact that they were getting nothing out of that defence.
