Was abolutely pertrified of this game and i'm still wary though confident going to OT. Revenge is a strong strong thing but Roma, just looked scarred from last year still. The absence of Totti was also a key factor. Great win for United and nice goal from Ronaldo (The worst player in the world till he gets 10000 goals and 500000 assists in a season, hahaha).

How i do feel Man U will need to score first at OT just to take 100% control of the tie.

Doesn't BMJ stand for Big Martin Jol? Always wondered.

Me too i've found them impressive when they played against Lyon. I don't find they have very good players but the organisation of this team by Sir Alex is a must, for example when Benzema scored he had 3 players on him. In attack all is known by the players of MU, there are tactics and we can see that the players have worked on it a lot, they could played the game with closed eyes. The defense of MU is a wall, they made little faults on every defending action but the referees don't see them because he could whistle it on every action. Very professional. Cool

I think MU can win it, but there is still good teams in it too.

I don't say that they are bad, i find the players good but there is only C. Ronaldo that i find very good. I think (but i can be wrong because you see more matchs of them than me Wink ) that the first quality of Manchester is the organisation of this team, the tactics are well known and worked a lot, a good physical form and when they counter attack Rooney and C. Ronaldo give many solutions and the adversary defense have not the time to form a group. For me, Manchester is a Team and a hard working team more than an association of good players.

Not a very good game at all. There were so many unforced errors on both sides.

The goal by Ronaldo was very good and he deserves credit for that cracking header, but as with the Liverpool game and the majority of big games he was generally ineffective. You can call that the mark of a good player to be shut out of a game and still come up with a goal , but i guess thats an half empty or half full situation.Ronaldo's tricks didn't work yet again in a big game and he made one run where he got past a couple of players and he hit the post.I will say this in his defense ,he should have had a bunch of free kicks that were missed ,but overall the ref was decent.
I don't know if any one here noticed but Ronaldo got more and more frustrated as the game went on with not being able to have his usual success. He showed that side of him that most ignore ,which is his selfsihness. At one point he had a one two going with Rooney. He's on the left of the box and passes to Rooney who is in the middle of the top of the box,Rooney shoots and misses and Ronaldo starts complaining and waving his arms. Now Rooney is in the best position to shoot and Ronaldo makes a public display of whining. The same thing happened moments later when Tevez had a decent chance.Ronaldo should be ashamed of himself for doing such a thing because both Rooney and Tevez have shown throughout the season that they are the most unselfish players around. He should understand that his stats are direct result of him having such teammates around him and if he was on an ordinary team he may be a more ordinary player.

VDS made some incredible saves and when you look at the chances, may have kept Man U in this competition.I have to say, that this looks like a very weak final 8 teams.Schalke ,Barcelona (without Ronaldinho & messi )shouldn't be a threat based on what i saw today.

All in all Man U won 2-0 away and that is a fantastic result.Man U should be very careful not to field a weaker side in the next leg though, because Roma looked dangerous on several occasions and if they score early it could be a problem.Of course the main media focus will be on how Cristiano Ronaldo scores again which if you haven't watched the game sounds like he had a fantastic game.

Messi will play the semis if Barça qualify.

Disappointed for the final result but until the second goal we played an ok match. Manchester have been smart to realize what we've conceded even if the second goal was a bit lucky. After the second goal it could have ended 3/4-0. What else I can say we've not been smart to score what we've created they did and the best team will go through to the semis even if I'd have fancied a more open result just to keep hopes alive.

After Arsenal I think Manchester United is the best club in europe and this could be the final of this edition of the Champions League.

That should be game over now. Can't see Roma winning 3-1 at OT.

I'm running out of reasons for not naming Ronaldo as the best player in the world. On current form he certainly is, that's for sure. He was awesome last night, and I was hoping that he would bury that third one in too, would have been a great goal. I can't wait for a Barca v Man Utd semi, and seeing a showdown between Messi and Ronaldo - if Messi is physically and match fit.

As Steely also said in another thread, I don't hate Man Utd as much as I used to. They play fantastic football, very easy on the eye. I still laughed though when that bloke kicked whiskey nose in the shins though Laughing

I'm glad you're in the extreme minority otherwise I'd be extremely frustrated... Wink

Considering that at the moment Manchester United could be considered the best team in Europe...

I agree with that.

For example on the last past years Chelsea for me is more an association of good players (football stars) than a team.

Have the current crop of Liverpool players got more experience in Europe than the current crop of Man U players? I don't think so!

I forget, how many of your players have been to TWO European Cup finals again?

Obviously, no current Man U player has played in TWO European Cup finals (unless you also include the UEFA cup) but that doesn't mean they are less experienced in playing in Europe than the current Liverpool squad.

Do you have anyone in the Liverpool squad that can match this current Man U players experience.

4 x FA Cup : 1993-1994, 1995-1996, 1998-1999, 2003-2004

Excellent result for Manchester United.

Fortunately for them they were playing a team from the dire, second-rate Serie A.

The whole point was IN Europe. Given that the context was specifically the EUROPEAN CUP we have the following players who have played in 1 final who are still in our squad.

Reina
Agger
Hyypia
Riise
Pennant
Mascherano
Kuyt
Crouch

The following have played in two:

Finnan
Gerrard
Carragher
Alonso

Oh and Benitez obviously managed both as well.

So as I correctly said before, there is no team left in Europe that has as much experience in their squad as Liverpool do in this competition

Roma vs Man United
