Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has admitted that he is flattered by strong interest in his services from Real Madrid after the Spanish giants were linked with a summer move for him.

The Ajax striker is believed to be high on Los Merengues' priority list for their end-of-season recruitment as Bernd Schuster has told the board that he wants a new goalscorer.

With Javier Saviola and Roberto Soldado both out of favour, Huntelaar has been targeted but he is remaining calm amid all the media stories about his future.

Flattered

"Of course, it is great to hear that a club with so much history is watching me. What I like most about them is that they are a team of champions," he told AS.

"But look, the reality is that these are only rumours, just like the talk of other teams looking at me. I have to wait as I cannot live like this.

"We shall see what happens. For the time being I have only heard rumours.

"Everything will depend on any offers I receive and what is best for me and what is best for Ajax. I have a contract here until 2010.

"The offer of a new deal is also on the table and I will see about that when the summer comes and make a decision."

Future

Huntelaar feels that he could continue his impressive goalscoring form abroad and revealed that he expects to be able to test that theory one day.

"I think that if someone is capable of scoring goals in Holland then they can do the same somewhere else. The future will show whether that is true," he continued.

Finally, the former PSV forward stated that he had not spoken to Ruud van Nistelrooy, Wesley Sneijder or Rosyton Drenthe about Madrid while on international duty.

"I talk to them about general things, not a lot about Real Madrid or Spanish football. But they do only say good things about the club and the league," he added.

I think Huntelaar would be better off coming to England should he leave Ajax, it would suit his game better. Everton, Aston Villa, Manchester City, Newcastle or Portsmouth may be good options for him if the big 4 teams don't want him.

I agree, Huntelaar needs to move on. It's important that he goes where he will get playing time, going to a big named club and sitting will do him no good. It need no be a great club, but a good club in the EPL or La Liga would do him well.

Before we changed to our new formation I would have had him at Anfield in a heart beat.

Top player.

Well if Huntelaar goes to Real Madrid, Ajax should try and get good money plus Ruud Van Nistlerooy as a swap. That would be a great deal if Ajax could pull it off. Very Happy

If Huntelaar goes Ruud i could see going to Ajax. He is getting on, so going to a lower league "no offense to dutch football"

If he decides to join Madrid I am sure he will leave 1 or 2 years later. He won't start a lot considering the calibre of Raul & Ruud Van Nistelrooy.
