WITH 25 goals already to his name this season, Scott McDonald is Scotland’s top scorer and one of the front-runners for this season’s Player of the Year Awards. And now his goalscoring exploits have been rewarded back in his homeland.

Because the Celtic striker has won Australian FourFourTwo magazine’s Overseas Player of the Year Award.

The 24-year-old beat out fellow countrymen Tim Cahill (Everton), Mark Bresciano (Palermo), Lucas Neill (West Ham United) and Mark Viduka (Newcastle United) for the award.

Editor-in-chief of Australian FourFourTwo Paul Hansford, said McDonald’s emergence this season has given an unexpected boost to Australian football.

“Scott’s talent has been evident for a number of seasons,” he said, “but many have questioned whether he had what it takes to take that next step.

“This season he can’t stop scoring goals - the strongest possible answer to any doubters.

“Mark Viduka’s achievements for Celtic earned him the Scottish Premier League Player of the Year award, and I’m sure Scott’s efforts will bring similar rewards for him, as well as for Celtic and Australia.”

Hmm, what's that I've been saying to people? "McDonald has outshone Viduka by a mile this season."

Excuse me, I have a humble pie to dish up to a few mates. Very Happy

Viduka hasn't played alot for various reasons, mainly injuries. McDonald is a brilliant goal poacher but never reallys gets his chance for Australia. If he maintains this kind of form for a while Australia could have itself a regular goalscorer to turn those draws into wins Very Happy

He is definately one of the best young talents to come out of Australia, but it must be said, he is of Scotish Heritage. Could of played for Scotland if he had chosen to.
