if anyone has done, or is doing A level PE, you should know what i mean by a PPP. if you dont then it doesnt matter.

but bascially, i have to choose a weakness of mine, and draw up an action plan on how to improve this.

the skill i have chosen is passing with my left foot, as it is a weakness of mine. for this action plan, i need to say how im going to improve, i.e what drills am i going to do.

does anyone have any good idea, as to what kind of drills are the best for improving weaker-foot passing? input from coaches would be great here, as they should know exactly what drills are the best for this.

Drills are a type of tool. 1 mark off for saying drill, i would of got at school.

Simple coaching sessions you could is you work with a partner. all he does is pass to your left foot and you control with left foot then pass with left foot. You could do this is starting close together then when you feel more confident with your left foot he would go back abit.

Thats a very basic coaching session.

Could expand with that and do the passing on the move going backwards and fowards etc

thanks for the feedback. i know drills are a tool, but its what the individual practices are called though arnt they.

yea i used the simple pass and pass back, and i said you could vary it by your partner moving left and right along a line and trying to make the pass to him.

do you have any more?

Could do a passing session kinda same as before but your passing through markers.

You have to pass through the markers . Start close and work out the way. Could keep the markers close or wide depending on what you want and how good and straight your passing is

A game you could play we call king of the square.
you get 2 teams, 2 squares.
Object of the game is to pass the ball into a square where your team member is. You must have one team member in your square. So both teams would be trying to do this. Of course you can dribble but try keep to passing and with the left foot. Also important that person in the square that they can not come out it

Firstly G man, Its a pointless exercise trying to correct people on matters of description as most of our terminolgy revolves around what literature we have read and the views of people who coached us and personal views as opposed to any hard and fast fact. Yes a drill is a tool, however it is also used to describe a particular type of football practice and indeed other types too such as fire drill. It is often used to describe a way of striking the ball usually with venom and pace.

Tom, Any practice with regards to passing can be used to improve the weaker foot. You just shift the emphasis of the passing to the use of the weaker foot. Whether it be long, short, inside, outside, laces, lofting or chipping, it really is that simple. The intersesting thing is depending on your ability with your weaker foot it can be like learning all over again which can leave you wondering why you never bothered doing it before. You can also work on shooting all the principles stay the same. It really is that simple.

Drills? Thats terrible coaching term. Sorry that gets to me people who use this term. And why is it pointless, I am correcting him just like you do me? I dont say your pointless?

I like your stlye G. My use of pointless was not meant in a derogatory fashion at all so i aplogise for any offence. I was merely emphasing that it is just 1 of those things that boils down to the preference of the individual rather than there being a right or wrong. Therefore you are not really correcting him, just letting him know that YOU dont like it. Like you said - it gets to YOU. Its just the english way i suppose with a language that has a multitude of words that lend themselves to double or more meanings. Once again apologies for any offence as none was intended.

I read somewhere that George Best was asked what was the best piece of football coaching advice he had ever been given as a boy. He replied that his Dad always insisted that if you wanted to be a top footballer you had to be 2 footed and sent him out into the garden with a football boot on his weaker foot and a slipper on his stronger foot. Eventually George became strong with both feet. I have no idea if that is true.

How about turning it into a fun game?

Balance a ball on top of a shallow cone.
Just 5m away.
Knock the ball off with a left foot pass.

Progression ...

Then place your ball to the right of the starting cone.
Move it to the left of the cone with a right foot touch, and pass a moving ball with the left foot to knock off the ball.

Progression ...

Then increase the distance from the target to 10m.
( You can create a match / competition with others by having the ball balanced on a shallow cone in the middle and a player 10m either side. Each taking turns to hit the ball. Every time they are successful they score a GOAL.
Run for 2 minutes and score the matches )

Small Sided Game ...

Simple. Left foot only.
Encourage players to adjust their body shape to receive a ball properly when it is coming to them on their right side ( always on toes ).

Small Side Progression ...

Left foot only. Two touch maximum.
Players now have to think about their next pass BEFORE they get the ball, because that decision will dictate their first touch.

Hope this makes sense.
Always difficult without diagrams.

Good Luck!
