Rumour's have it that Borussia Dortmund's Swiss international attacking full-back Philipp Degen, 25, is the signing that Benitez claims has already been made.

REDS OFFER DEGEN 3-YEAR-DEAL
Liverpool are closing in on one of their summer targets with Philipp Degen on the brink of sealing a switch to Anfield.
The Borussia Dortmund defender has been offered fresh terms by his current club but Swiss sources claim a three-year contract with The Reds is also on the table.
Tages Anzeiger reports that, although neither Liverpool nor Degen have confirmed the deal, the move has been agreed and the right back may have already played his last game for Dortmund after picking up an injury.
The 25-year-old will represent Switzerland when they co-host Euro 2008 this summer but it seems likely he will be plying his trade in England next season.
Jamie Carragher has been playing at right back for Rafa Benitez at times this term with Steve Finnan no longer an automatic first choice in the position so any raid for Degen would not come as a surprise. |

Liverpool PRESS AHEAD WITH £14MILLION INTEREST
Liverpool Football Club are to make an official bid for Gareth Barry in the summer.
The Reds have been linked with the Aston Villa midfielder for the past few weeks, and although Martin O’Neill is desperate to keep his skipper, he accepts he may lose the England international.

I wonder if Benitez is intent on using Barry on the left, should their be substance to this move. Whether that's the case, or whether he's looking to replace Alonso, i wouldn't say no to bringing in an English player who is definitely able. We're said to be in a fight with
Chelsea for him but you'd think him being good mates with Gerrard might sway him in our direction.

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is keeping an eye on Athletico Madrid's Maxi Rodriguez, according to reports.
The Argentinian star is a close friend of Kop star Fernando Torres, who he played alongside in the Spanish capital.

Seems lazy to me - Hispanic/friend of Torres ... therefore we're going to buy him? We'll be linked with most Spanish/Argentines in the summer. Again, i wouldn't say no to him at all when you consider other players we've been linked with.
Like with Barry, Bentley is surfacing a lot recently.

Chelsea and Liverpool will not only fight on the pitch in the next week, but over the next few months they will be fighting for one of their top summer targets, David Bentley.
The young Blackburn star has recently rejected Mark Hughes attempt to lengthen his contract. Bentley has attracted interest from numerous clubs around the Premiership, but it seems as if Chelsea and Liverpool have the funds to buy him from Blackburn.
Bentley is currently rated £15 million and would require around £60,000 a week.
Bentley has progressed greatly since making his move to Arsenal by making his England debut as a second-half substitute against Israel at Wembley.
However he believes that in order to be the successor to David Beckham he will have to play in the Champions League. |
