Martin Jol to Westham United?

I just heard on tv that Westham United wants Martin Jol as the new Manager. does anyone know more about this? they didnt say much about it.

It will never happen. I think MJ is waiting for the Holland job, or a job back in Hollland.

psv wanted him before but then he said no.because he liked the premiership to much. thats what they said and write over here.
Now also az alkmaar wants him but they said on tv that prob wont happend because westham also wants him.
i think Westham is a great team for him.

Personally I think BMJ can do better, i think he should take over at one of the big 3 in Holland, tho i recon he could do a hell of a job at celtic when strachan gets the heave

cant anymore.....all the 3 have a new trainer for next season.

I don't think many West Ham fans would want an ex Spurs manager who failed there as our coach

It would be like Ajax hiring an ex PSV or Feyenoord manager who had never achieved anything!!

I'm talking about Martin Jol as a coach in England when I mean he never achieved anything over here...

When you say "failed there" explain pls? Becuase he took over from Jaques Santini, who had won what, i think maybe two games for us and we were looming in relegation. Jol takes over, first game against Arsenal, 4-5, ok we lost but it was more goals than we'd scored under Santini just about, up to 9th, and about 1 or 2 points away from Europe, whislt the previous two seasons he led us to our two best ever premier league finishes and European football two seasons in a row, which hadn't happend at Spurs in many years. Yes he never won a trophy and his bottle went too many times (3-1 up against Chelsea, 2-0 against Arsenal), but he's still a good manager, and would do good for what West Ham want to achieve.

I also forgot to add that he is the only manager to be one gameaway from taking us to the Champions League, having being in 4th spot from December. Not bad going me thinks for a mangaer who is "crap".

seems like you know your stuff becks, but why would West Ham sack their manager? top half is good for them, however they do need to improve if they are goin to do that next year because both Newcastle and Spurs will be stronger. is jol the man to improve them, who knows...

Well I know a few West Ham fans, and all of them hate Curbs. Apparently he is tactically inept and brings on the wrong subs with little time to go, does wrong formations, selects the wrong players etc. So thats probably why, although he did (amazingly) keep them up last season and has done pretty well with them this season, considering the injuries West Ham have had. BUT, I don't think he is the right man to take West Ham to that next level, specially given his transfer record, and record at Charlton (Mid table at most, I think). But with money to spend, who knows, but if he signs anything like half the dross he signed in the last 2 transfer windows, maybes another mid table finish for West Ham if he's sitll there.

I don't think his signings have been that bad. They just haven't been able to play.

I thought Neill and Upson were fantastic signings, and when he signed Bellamy, Ljungberg, Dyer and Faubert i thought the same. Unfortunately none of them have had a proper run in the team because of injuries.

He has made some really sh*t signings though.

take dyer out and they are all good players. neill has been great for them

Dyer is good on his day. If he didn't get injured so much his day would come a lot more often, and he'd be a good player.

They did pay too much for him though.

I would say their siginings havnt been that great, dont get me wrong they are good players, but they are useless to you if they are always on the injury list, most of these players like dyer and parker he knew were injury prone before he signed em. Alot of Hammers fans say Curbishly hasnt got a clue in the foregin markets and i think they may be right.

I think its hard to judge Jol on his Spurs time. We have to wait till he has done a job at another club.

Its hard to judge him whilst he was at Spurs because he made hardly any of the signings himself. So when the players realised it was Comolli that signed them they lost respect for BMJ. Of course he has alot to learn tactic wise but he wont get any better unless hes managing a top flight squad.

Also if he did become WestHam manager i think the Spurs fans wouldnt think any less of him. Because we all love him.

As a charachter and for restoring pride at Spurs, he will always be a legend at WHL, but for me personally his tactics and some of his signing got on my nerves, (tho i accept that some of that is down to comolli). I think we made the right choice to bring in Ramos, but the way the bord treated Jol should never be forgotten.

The fact that last season Tottenham would concede the same goal every week and nothing was done about it. (ball played deep to opposition forward, defence drops too deep, ball weakly headed towards the centre of the penalty area, where an unmarked midfielder scores, no backtracking from midfield)

The fact that Spurs had one of the tallest defences in the PL, but were hopeless at defending set pieces

The fact that most of our players were obviously overweight

Negative tactics
Tactically weak- example: Chelsea v Tottenham 3-3, FA Cup: when Chelsea moved to a 2 man defence when they were 3-1 down, the obvious outball was a pass to defoe, who would have skinned their defence for pace. That pass was on for about 40 minutes of the 2nd half, and wasnt played once. it is the managers job to see this.
