Next big summer import |
|
The attraction of having the supposed "best league in the world" is that the best talent in the world become increasingly enticed by the chance to play in it - that's natural and something that will excite the majority of us.
In the summer of 2007 we saw Fernando Torres depart from his beloved Atletico for a big-money move to Merseyside club Liverpool, and in the season prior one of the great striker's in the modern era Andriy Shevchenko made an English transfer record move to Russian-owned Chelsea. With now not only Manchester United and Chelsea willing to pay big bucks, notably the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City and Newcastle United, many fans will anticipate a lavish summer of spending, in which huge steps may be made to compete with the now established modicum of English Champions League participants. And whether it's David Villa of Valencia, Daniel Alves of Sevilla, Ronaldinho of Barcelona, Philipp Lahm of Bayern Munich, Diego of Werder Bremen, Kaka of AC Milan, Karim Benzema of Lyon, Ricardo Quaresma of Porto or Luka Modric of Dinamo Zagreb, there promises to be at least one outstanding signing to whet the appetite for the coming campaign. But which eventual signing do you think will boast the main interest, and for which club? |

Someone like Man City bringing in someone that makes everyone say "I can't beleive he's signed for them" a la Mascherano & Tevez to West Ham. WTF where they thinking by the way?!?

They were owned by a third party so I don't think they had any choice. |

Benzema to Man Utd.

Benzema recently signed a new deal with Lyon. If he was going to be sold, I doubt he would have signed a new deal. |

I don't think Wenger will pay big money for a player they don't really need.

I did read that we wanted him but you were going to beat us to his signature but thought it was more just rumours. I agree sticky im not sure if Wenger will splash the cash for a player that plays a position that doesnt really need strengthening as such. Adebayor Robin Van Persie Also Eduardo may be playing in the second half of the season. Walcott Bendtner You have 5 strikers there who are quality, in Walcott and Bendtners case look like they will be good players especially Walcott. Too add David Villa to that list i cant really see it happening but you never know. |

personally i feel that bendtner not good enough eduardo wont be the same till the 09/10 season till he gets too full fitness walcott still play on the right in premier league but up front in carling cup and van persie you can never trust with hes injury so personally our only real striker is adebayor and he needs a rest sometimes so i feel that wenger needs to go get david villa he said he wants to come and he worth the money so go get him while he can |

I don't see Walcott as a striker yet. Wenger will continue to play him on the wing for at least another year (except for possibly the Carling Cup). So technically in the first half we only have 3 strikers, god forbid Adebayor or Van Persie get hurt, we'll be in trouble. Bendtner isn't ready to start, nowhere near enough quality. If Van Persie gets hurt, we can cope with playing 4-5-1 with Adebayor up front alone. But if Adebayor gets hurt, we are in a bit of trouble, for I don't see Van Persie being able to play up front alone. |

The same can be said about Torres, and Drogba at Chelsea for a long until they signed Anelka. If you have really bad injury problems, you're always going to be [beep!]. You can't have an unlimited number of top class players to cover.

I think Arsenal would be better of trying to get Fabiano.

That is true, but both of those teams struggled a bit as well during the times those two players were injured. Chelsea with a dominant defense were able to deal with it a bit better than Liverpool with a shaky defense. Arsenal can deal with it if Van Persie is hurt; but if Adebayor is hurt, I don't like our chances with Van Persie and/or Bendtner being the lone striker. |

Well you say Walcott isnt ready to be playing up front, but the time he did play upfront he caused more problems to the defence than any of the other Arsenal players.
Personnaly i think his pace is wasted on the wing as he does seem to give the ball away alot i think his pace is utilised more when hes chasing after the ball thats played in behind the defenders. |

I believe that was in one of the Carling Cup matches a few months ago. Or in the CL match where we won 7-0 against Slavia Prague where he netted two goals. But I don't think he's ready to start day in day out in a league match. |

i dont have a clue what the player will be but i think the club will be Newcastle, we need to get a few top players and i hope one of them is world class (just a hope). i have went with Newcastle because its clear keegan will be given what he wants in the summer and i dont see the top four spending that high (sounds stupid i know). Man United dont need to improve, Arsenal never spend big, not sure about Chelsea to be honest it depends on what happens to the manager and with Liverpool i dont think they will spend that big because of the problems with the club.....
