Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed star trio Rio Ferdinand, Michael Carrick and Wes Brown have agreed new contracts with Manchester United.
Chief executive David Gill told Ferguson the good news in an early morning meeting on Friday without outlining precisely how long the three players will remain at Old Trafford. However, it is expected that all three have signed long-term deals, with Brown putting an end to intense speculation over his future after extending a contract that was due to run out at the end of the season. Reports suggest the Manchester United defender has agreed to a new four-year contract worth £50,000 a week. The 28-year-old England international has started 41 games in all competitions this season. The season-long absence of injured club captain Gary Neville gave Brown the chance to secure a first team place this term. The defender had threatened to sever his ties with United after months of contract negotiations but will now remain with the club he joined on YTS terms until beyond his 32nd birthday. Ealier in the day fellow defender Ferdinand told MUTV that there was still a few issues to be resolved with his own contract before putting pen to paper. 'It's nearly signed, nearly,' Ferdinand said. 'We are still talking over a couple of things but I'm sure it will be sorted out before the end of the season. 'It will be a proud day for me, definitely, when I do sign a new contract.' The England defenders insists he has no desire to play anywhere other than Old Trafford. 'I'm enjoying my time at United, I love being here and that's not changed,' he declared. 'Being part of a successful team is great and to be part of the tradition that goes along with that is an honour in itself. 'To have the opportunity to stay here for another four or five years would be fantastic.' |

He wanted 50 , so they reached halfway and he got 45. which in my opion is still too much for him as he isn't worth that. I'm glad Carrick and Ferdinand have signed new deals. |

am so happy to know everyone's staying.. kind of dislike seeing new players in the team all the time.. and how people think of fergie being a spendthrift manager..
and hope we can practise some rotation of defenders for next season.. so more possibilities in earning more cups.. lol.. |

So it looks like Wes Brown would be staying. He'd be a fool not to as it would be a step down to leave Man Utd unless he went to one of the top clubs outside of England which I don't think will ever happen.

Surely United must sign a better right-back in the summer though?
That, along with left-wing (unless Nani can start regularly) and an out-and-out striker, is what they lack in my opinion. Hopefully they don't strengthen too much in the summer, though. |
