Steven Gerrard has claimed Liverpool can catch Chelsea and challenge for this year's Premiership trophy.
As the Reds go in search of their ninth consecutive league victory at Everton this evening, the Liverpool captain has insisted the team's form over recent weeks has given him the confidence to believe Rafa Benitez's side can cause a major surprise this season and be Chelsea's main rivals for championship glory.

"I look around our dressing room and see the will to win in people's eyes," he said.

"Hopefully we'll be delivering a trophy and getting involved in the title race. We want to be in there at the death.

"We have got a gang of hungry players. Everyone wants more medals - and lots of them!

"Look at the table and we're tucked in there behind Chelsea and right on Manchester United's shoulder.

"We know that we can surprise a few people with where we finish in the league this year. We won't be surprising ourselves though. We are all confident that this season can be a success.

"I don't think there are many teams who'd fancy playing us at the moment so we must be getting it right.
