Despite the collapse at the end of the season, i'd have to give it to Wenger.

To even be close with a team put together with so little money is astonishing. Especially when you look at how far away they were last season, and since then lost Henry and made little reinforcement.

Redknapp. Brought some good players to the club (Defoe, Diarra), got them fighting for European football and 5th spot, and an FA Cup final.

If they win the FA cup and finish in the top 6 in the league, then i may have to reconsider and give it to Redknapp.

They can't win the UEFA Cup, seeing as though they're not in it Wink

Wenger?

I would disagree personally, granted he did a fine job up to a point - but 'Manager of the Season'? Nah...

Redknapp would be an obvious choice, as would Fergie particularly if they do win the league.

1 - Wenger
2 - Moyes
3 - Redknapp
4 - Ferguson
5 - Southgate

1 - No-one expected Arsenal to be within a chance of the title, so to only be out of it with four games to go shows a tremendous effort. Certain players have improved amazingly and Wenger has to take credit for assembling such a side, playing such beautiful football. The strides they've made are big, even if they haven't come away with any silverware.

2 - The Holy Grail these days for managers outside of Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool is to challenge that elite band for a Champions League position - Moyes has done that. He had a solid start to the season before seizing fourth place in January, and keeping it up 'till the beginning of March, only relinquishing any real grasp in April. He's come close, on occasion putting together title-winning streaks of results, and through both the league and Europe there's been tangible improvements.

3 - Portsmouth are, in reality, a small club. Similar to Moyes, Redknapp has made strides with his club, only from a different standing point - they are now as the seasons end looms within a whisker of catching Everton for 5th, which given the season the Merseysiders have had is a great feat. They play good, passing football too, and a European place looks inevitable. Not to mention them being the only Premier League side to make it to the last four of the FA Cup, and now looking set to lift the trophy. A cup for any club is huge.

4 - Fergie's done a good job, looking on course to win the Premier League and in contention for a Champions League final appearance. He's not higher up, however, because the squad was there for all to see at the beginning, and they were favourites all the way. It feels to me as though they've been handed the title by Arsenal's collapse and Chelsea being distinctly average for 9/10 of the campaign. They've peaked at the right time but i don't think United have otherwise been mesmerising, unlike in past seasons perhaps.

5 - In just his second season with Middlesbrough, and - importantly - his second season in football management, Southgate for me has done an excellent job in keeping 'Boro clear of any relegation scrap. They started the season with a poor squad, seemingly having no source of goals whatsoever, but he's managed to do very well, peaking in the second half of the season to avoid such a scrap as i mentioned. He stuck to his guns with Tuncay and it paid dividends, and Alves looks like he could be a huge player for them next season. They've recovered from a slow start and have looked very comfortable for a while.

Steve Bruce maybe deserves a mention. As does Alan Curbishley perhaps.

If Fergie wins the league then he's arguably in pole position, if he wins the Champions League aswell then there isn't even a debate surely.

It hasn't really been a year for managers, usually we see someone who has been comparatively stand out in his campaign but not really this season for me.

And definitely not Arsene Wenger... Anyone who puts Gallas as their captain, fails to bring players in when he has the opportunity, plays his best defender at right back in order to play a right back on the wing and has so much in-house bitching is not manager of the year in my opinion... Trophyless to top it all off.

If he wins the Champions League then yes, i'd give it him; if he just wins the league however i wouldn't. A manager's success has to be relative to their side, and Manchester United have been huge favourites for the league title the moment Mourinho was replaced by Grant.

No, they haven't? Confused

Weren't Arsenal top and favourites for a few months solid? Before they bottled it under your choice for manager of the year.

They'll do what they normally do and give it to the manager who's won the league. Its a farce.
