They are not comparable for three reasons.

1. Torres has played a lot more this season

2. The team is built to Torres's strength and for him to be the focal point.

3. They are different players. Tevez is a better all around player, he is a supporting striker not primarily a goal scorer. Torres exists solely to score goals.

1. That tells its own story.

2. It wasn't when he first got here and he was still banging them in.

3. You have point but either way Torres is the better player.

Obviously SAF disagrees with you, preferring to sign Tevez when he also had the option of Torres.

And who fed that load of shite to you?

Deluded doesn't even come close. United have been tracking Torres for years and Ferguson has been a massive admirer enquiring on more than a few occassions.

Tevez? Do me a favour. He's been a good squad player for United. Torres has been the best player this Season for us and the best Striker in the League this year BAR NONE.

It came from the mouth of SAF my friend. Errrrrr....SAF isn't my friend....I was referring to you Very Happy

Not like old purplenose would ever change his mind once the decision was out of his hands.

Funny that Ferguson thinks he had the choice because Torres only ever had one team in mind as he has said on a number of occassions. Smile

1.Correct......the story is that Liverpool have a far weaker squad and Torres would get less games playing for United.

2.Agreed......Torres has done brilliant.

3.If you agree he has a point then you are contradicting yourself by saying Torres is better.

How is Tevez a better all-round STRIKER than Torres, when in the air he offers barely half the threat Torres does, and his finishing is in a different league (well below - he misses glaring chances).

I do like Tevez more than Torres, but i don't agree with what you said. Imagine if we played Tevez up front on his own in our formation!

I think we all agree Sticky. It's difficult to really compare the two players fairly. Torres goal record this season speaks for itself, and so does Tevez contribution to team play and in scoring important goals from the bench. Tevez has admitted earlier in the season that he felt tired and in need of a rest, probably because of his exploits last season with West Ham and his involvement in last Summers international tournament in S America. They are BOTH fantastic players in my opinion and I would be happy with either or both in my squad.

I wouldn't put it quite like that Sticky, but I agree that Torres is probably better, however your original statement that 'they are no threat' with their heads is obviously NOT correct. Don't you agree?

Well obviously everyone can pose a threat with their head, but i think both are poor in the air. Tevez has done quite well recently, and isn't the worst in the world when it comes to heading, but he is too small. Rooney is also small, and isn't much use with his head. So no, i wouldn't say they pose much of a threat in the air.

Tevez scores again with his head Sticky. No threat huh..... Wink

1. The story being that Man Utd have a much better squad. Tevez would walk into Liverpool's team. I agree Torres has been the second best players in the EPL this season but Tevez hasn't had a fair chance and he is a player of some pedigree.

2. They still played with him as the focus of almost all Liverpool attacks, even if they hadn't adapted the formation yet.

3. Torres is a better goalscorer obviously but Tevez is a better passer, more creative and probably a more intelligent player. Check out some videos from him at Corinthians.

This comparison is like comparing Vieira and Zidane. Two very different players both of whom play in the same broad position (as in midfield) but who have totally different skills and play different roles in a team.

Wrong. A player such as van Nistelrooij exists solely to score goals. Torres isn't a poacher; and you'll often see him running either wing, displaying a lot of movement, as well as leading the line.

Come on Ben, you are just playing with words now, no way does Torres contribute to open play in the way that Tevez does. Torres is a striker and his main function is putting the ball in the net, whether you want to call it striker, poacher, goal hanger or otherwise, in exactly the same vein as RVN.

He plays through the centre on the last defender all match. He has 2 assists all season. He is there to score goals and nothing more. He might not poach but not all forwards do. Eto'o doesn't poach but he only on the pitch for one reason.

You agree he has a point that they are different types of players and can't fairly be compared. Then you say 'but Torres is better'. That is a contradiction my friend. I think you're the one that needs a little lesson in English Rolling Eyes

There's no need to have childish bias 100% of the time. It is painstakingly obvious that Man Utd have a stronger squad than Liverpool.

"RVN" was a poacher, sitting in the penalty area. Torres doesn't do that. They're not the same.

How many of Torres' goals have been tap-ins?

I don't know the answer to that......but I guess your point is that Torres contributes to open play more than RVN.....who you believe just hangs around the box putting the ball in the net. RVN would probably give you an argument on that one.......and I find it difficult to disprove what you say is true or untrue.

Saha walked into United's first team but Torres wouldn't...

yeah I'm bias.

Tevez has been a good squad player. Torres would be first choice at United and that is why they were willing to spend 20 plus mill on him. Oh no wait, teams often go after 20 mill plus players to put on their bench.

Buffon and Ade Akinbyi are different players but I still know which one is better.

In fact let's just have a comparative argument. I think Babel is better than Tevez. Sure he has scored less goals but he gives us width and they are different players so....
