On Wednesday Dutchman Fred Rutten was hired to coach Schalke 04 next season. He will succeed Mirko Slomka who was recently fired.
Rutten, age 45, contract is for two years beginning on July 1st. Mike Bueskens and Youri Mulder will stay in charge of the team until the end of the season and then work with Rutten as his assistant coaches.
With 5 matches remaining in the current Bundesliga season, Schalke hold down the 3rd spot. Last season Schalke were the runner-ups.
