It is certainly a good achievement to get to the FA Cup, he should win it though. FA cup runners up don't get no favours from me. Gullit and Dalglish come to mine.

If Cardiff win it, should Dave Jones get it?? Wink

What has he done? How about putting together at team for about 25% the cost of Man Utd's and Chelsea's, but still challenging them, in a time when money is everything. Also, they were very unlucky to go out of the CL to us, and even in the league, if it wasn't for the disaster in the Birmingham, and all the bad decisions that came afterwards in the following weeks, i'm sure Arsenal would still be challenging. In fact, i think they would still be at the top of the table.

He overachieved with his Arsenal team. Last season they were light years off challenging for the league, but despite losing their best player, they've imrpoved immeasurably, and are very unlucky to not be finishing with a trophy in the cabinet.

Has Fergie overachieved with the players he has at his disposal?

In the summer Man U went out and spent over £50m to bring in the likes of Hargreaves, Tevez, Anderson and Nani, to a side that was already far superior to Arsenal's team. Wenger somehow managed to get the best out of the players h had (or get them overachieving), and to the surprise of everybody, they were leading the title race for much of the season, and playing the most mesmerising brand of football we have seen in some time.

Alot of ifs and buts there. Arsenal are a team who should be looking to win something every year whether it be the fa cup or the league or the other cup.
Memoring football we have seen but won nothing? Remember when Dundee once played entertaining football, means nothing tho if your not going to win anything.

Arsenal short of money yet look how much they spent on the emirates. Please Wenger has money we all know that. Wenger is just very clever with his money

In retrospect Wenger has done very well with his side this season indeed.NObody and i mean absolutely nobody had them leading the table at any point at the start of the season. When pundits and so called experts were making their predictions for the title race Arsenal never got a shout from anyone, and that includes one of Wengers admirers ...........Me!
Last season Arsenal were getting kicked off of the park by the Blackburns ,Boltons and sheff u 's of the league ,with the apparent support of the FA.Wenger changed his team into the team with the least amount of quit in them this season. They fought fire with fire and other teams had to change their game.

I think that Wenger not being a big spender and having a title challenging deserves obvious credit .One can make the argument taht sir Alex shelling out tens of millions more than Wenger is his way of trying to compete with ready made stars. This season was written off by most people as a rebuilding process for Arsenal therefore they wouldn't be a factor. Now it's up to those same folks to give credit were it is due and say that Wenger outcoached everyone in the league up until they ran out of healthy players. He never changed his way of playing football he just evolved it a little more by making his team tougher.
I don't know how much Credit Sir alex can get for buying big ,but he certainly deserves a huge amount of credit for keeping the ego's in check in which case he's done a masterful job.
Man U have so many very good good player it almost eliminates Ferguson from Manager of the year awards. Wengers only issue this season was not having a deep enough squad ,other than that he has done a fantastic job. Notable accomplishments for me were the Bolton game and the AC Milan away game, remeber Arsenal still didn't have their number one striker and other big players but they did what they did in those games. When you look at the huge amount of effort put into those matches could answer why they couldn't win the bigger games after that ,because of sheer exhaustion.

Do be ridiculous. That was early in the season, NO ONE thought Arsenal could maintain that form for much of the season, certainly not until near the end. Man U were huge favourites, and if it wasn't for Grant doing such a good job at Chelsea, Man U would have the title by now.

No one expected Arsenal could maintain that form? They were 5 points clear but a few months ago, no one expected they could win from that? And you think I'm being ridiculous? Okay, Sticky I personally think you are talking rubbish but okay.

Arsenal went into meltdown and Wenger just brushed it aside, they won't come out on top because they didn't have the bottle, they don't have the attitude of true winners instilled into them.

You still actually believe that after watching the Bolton game?
It's obvious they ran out of players

Are you saying that a player, nevermind a captain, would walk away from a penalty against his team and start kicking advertising hoardings and then sit in the middle of the pitch crying after his teammates had already left the pitch and have his manager come out and drag him into the changing rooms, under a Sir Alex or Benitez or even a Mourinho?

I think people are making too much out of Gallas' antics personally. There is not one person who can convince me that their critisicm of Gallas' outburst is fueled by their own personal dislike of him for whatever OTHER reasons.I just watched a clip when he had the same reaction while playing for Chelsea against Liverpool in the cup ,so i don't buy that garbage that people keep piling on a man who not afraid top show that he cares about winning.

Arsenal threw away a 5 point gap, crashed out of 3 cup competitions and went on an abysmal run as the finish to the season drew near and you think that is manager of the year material? Give me a break.

And you want to put that down to bad technical decisions by Wenger? Don't make me laugh. They ran out of players ,even before Eduardo got hobbled they only had Walcott and Bendtner to fill in,kids. When Arsenal lost Eduardo Arsenal were still leading the table, but everyone knew that they would relinquish their lead in the coming weeks ,because it was impossible to do both champs league and regular football with only one first team striker left.It had nothing to do with lack of bottle or lack of quality.

no way should Arsene Wenger win it , you shoud not win an award for nearly doing really well or almost getting close to the Champions League Final or Carling Cup final ..

If anyone deserves it i reckon Harry Redknapp for his continuning success at turning Portsmouth into a serious Premier League force and team capable of winning trophies . The FA CUP woudl be the icing on teh cake .....

I see alot of debate here on who should be "Manager of the Season". But what are the benchmarks or targets set to assess them? How do you compare Rednapp to say someone like Ferguson or Wenger??? Is it via league position or cups? Then the top managers will win 9 out of 10 times! I believe it should be relative to what the team's goals are.

I read ppl saying what a good job wenger is doing this season.... but what good did he do seriously????? They were supposed to be title contenders and wenger himself had mentioned that they were capable of winning it when they were leading the league. So there is no excuses for him this time.... same with benitez, it has always been 'next year' when it comes to challenging for the title. Yet, pool have not made any significant progress on that front. They are still way off the likes of Man Utd or Chelsea.

In my oppinion, if any of these following managers (Fergie, Wenger, Grant & benitez) were to win it, they MUST win the league! These teams were set out to challenge for the league title in the first place. If they don't means they have failed in their primary objective thus don't deserve any consideration.

Outside of these four, the other managers that deserve consideration are:

Real possibility:
Rednapp if he wins the FA Cup as no other manager out of the top 4 managed that in the last many moons. Or even via their league position if they can get 5th as they would have over achieved their initial goal of a midtable finish.

Slight chance:
Ramos for winning the League Cup. But didn't do well enough in the league and UEFA Cup.

Moyes for leading an average club to..... 5th in the league (if they eventually finish there) together with a semi final run in the league cup, a good run in the UEFA Cup (100% in group stage and a club record of 7 consecutive wins in Euraope).

Personally, I think Ramos hasn't got a chance. Winning the league cup is that much of a great acheivment. How many of the games was he actually in charge of?

Don't expect him to win it really. But he is the only manager out of the top 4 that have at least won something so far.......

I believe Fergie will ultimately get it by winning the league.

All but the first one. We played Boro in the first round we were in and beat them 2-0, the second round we were in was against blackpool and it was Ramos' first game in charge and again we won 2-0.

So Ramos was in charge for almost the whole competition.

I agree though he doesnt deserve manager of the year no where near. If we had gotten further in the Uefa Cup and finished 8th or 9th then he could be mentioned but he still wouldnt deserve it.

Harry Redknapp for me, delivers an FA Cup final maybe the Fa Cup itself, Still could get 5th place in the league. We have finished 5th for the past 2 years but we didnt get to a final, Pompey could do both so i think Harry deserves it this year.

Of course Fergie will probably get it, they have been very good but he did spend a hell of alot of cash, i think Harry has done better with what hes got.

I don't think Ramos did that well aside from the Carling Cup. When he took over there were still plenty games left and they continued to lose agaisnt teams they are a lot better than. He's done okay and the real test will be next year after he's sorted the team but he by no means has been a huge success.

he wouldn't get it for that.He would get for doing what everyone here and in the press thought would be impossible.1) they thought Arsenal were about two years away from doing as well as they did.2) Arsenal were supposed to be too physically intimidated by the more physical teams to be a factor.
Arsenal's only downfall was their lack of numbers ,in which case you can blame the manager if he had funds or the board if he didn't.I tend to think Wenger had the money but miscalculated injuries and the such.
For the reason i stated Wenger deserves credit and blame ,but the good outweighs the bad 10 to 1.
That taken into consideration i would still give the award to Harry.

Hahaha, sounds like Fergie had a mare today.

My pick - Avram Grant

If Fergie can get nominated, then why not Grant. Surely he has done a better job this season. Reached a league cup final, currently joint on points with Man U at the top of the table (after beating them today) and in a better position to progress in the CL. All of this after taking over a Chelsea team that were in a mess - players crying about Mourinho departure, players threatening to leave, players and fans criticising the manager, and constantly putting added pressure on him. He's had to work in the most difficult of situation, but still has achieved everything Fergie has this season.

Anyone disagree with that?

Hardly funny Jono, it's not like i have to watch every game, especially when they involve teams i don't follow.

Anyway, I'd probably still give to Redknapp or Wenger, but it'll have to wait until the end of the season. I just wanted tp point out how Grant has done everything Fergie has so far, and more.

Erm, well you can't make those decisions before they have happened. They could win the league on goal difference, and get really lucky in the CL. Or they could be immense and win all the remaining games of the season in spectacular fashion. Or, the manager could make several big errors, but get dug out of a whole by the brilliance of one or two players. You have to assess those sort of things, and not just the final outcome.

Also, we'll have to see how Portsmouth finish the season.

1. Wenger
2. Redknapp
3. Grant

Wenger got the team he wants and producing good football. Did well to "almost" win the league.
Redknapp done great in getting to the cup final with a serious push for Champions League. Like Wenger, he has put t
