What gave it away?

Embarrasing myself on the net? Damn I'll never get over that with the rest of my net friends. I will be the laughing stock of the forum.

Sorry everyone.

I think in the return game Liverpool should play riise... Players who make big mistakes like that normally make up for them by playing their heart out.

Would he become the new special one?

surely he would be if he managed what 'the special one' couldnt

Did with Porto, Just not Chelsea

Anyway what a sh1t game. Ref i thought did well by letting the game flow. 1 yellow card was not so bad. Passing was pretty poor from 2 "top" teams

Sorry Reds fans but what goes around comes round. Your luck can't last forever. I missed Chelsea's penalty claim but heard it was a nailed on too. I missed quite a bit of the game in all fairness because I knew it would be tense but lacking in attacking moments and I was proved right again. Sh1t on a stick. From what I saw, Liverpool deserved to win and would have done if Torres was on his game. Lamps was at fault for Kuyt's goal - you can't attempt to play the ball out of defence with your back turned, not against Liverpool anyway where they press the opposition tightly.

Ben91: You're right about Cole getting a booking, but so should have Mascherano for cynically taking out Kalou in the second half. A blatant booking and hence a second leg suspension. Not at Anfield though Rolling Eyes

How weird but funny would it be if Grant won the Champions' League and League double? Confused

Stupidest thing you have ever said.

To try and suggest we were lucky overall with decisions as well.....

Yeah you clearly DIDN'T see the game.

Chelsea 4-4 Villa

Chelsea 1-1 Everton

Chelsea 1-1 Wigan

HALF TIME in the tie.

We're still going to Moscow. Bluenose enjoy Tescos!

Pathetic. Picking out three Chelsea results like that to give you hope. Those results will have absolutely NO BEARING on next week's match, I can't believe you brought them up to "prove" a point! Laughing

It's like Chelsea fans getting excited about beating Liverpool at Anfield before the kick off yesterday simply because you LOST to Barnsley at home this season.

PS - I'm not saying you was lucky with decisions in this tie so stop getting your knickers in a twist. I'm just saying that the fat Spanish waiter can't complain about decisions going against him. Now repeat that back to me, I want to make sure you understand Cool

You are quite a smarmy [beep!] for a Spurs fan.

Yeah ban me like I give a [beep!]. The mods in this place are all nobheads anyway.

ODogg with nearly wetting himself when he saw a Liverpool "fan" (who probably hasn't been to anfield since 1945) ready to give his "honest" view of the most succesful side of this millenium.

CFC with his LOOK AT ME, RESPECT ME, I MADE IT TO MOD STATUS!

To anyone I actually had a decent respectful footballing conversation with, thankyou. Respect is a two way street and there are too many gobshites on here that would rather repeat what Sky say word for word than have an original thought.

Thank you for making me realise once again that it isn't worth giving "football fans" in general the benefit of the doubt because half of them are inbred [beep!] who only care about their team and hating other teams, they don't want to know about the game itself.

Bluenose, you will live a bitter existance you lad, maybe one day you will snap out of it and become human? I doubt it. I can just see you running to your PC to celebrate a 1-1 draw for your most bitter rivals "Liverpool-".

All this and that's before I get to the racist [beep!] of the year who can get away with anything he says "cos he's just him".

Hypocritical walking breathing adverts for contraception to a man.

It says something when you get more grief about a result from a Spurs fan and an Everton fan than any real United fans who go to the game (of which I am mates with a few).

Might have something to do with small team syndrome. Just maybe.

Whoops!!! Looks like I wound him up just a bit too much!! Laughing Laughing Laughing

In fairness my post wasn't personal at all, I was just making some valid points. I even acknowledged that Liverpool played the better football and deserved the win. I don't see what his problem is but it appears he took it to heart. Oh well!

BIIATTCHHHH!!!!!! Laughing

speaking of which, i wonder whether Riise will go into hiding with 'psychological problems' like senderos did after this massive mistake...

whats that, Riise is a man? oh yeah, he will pick himself up and do his best to make up for the error. take note sticky, riise will demonstrate how to carry yourself after letting your own club down.

he will bounce back stronger. i like riise, he shows passion and really seems to care about Liverpool. it was undoubtedly a very poor mistake and why he didnt volley it into row Z i will never know but these things happen and he will get over it and be a bigger man for it.

Riise is a strange case. He has put his heart and soul into our club. As you say, you can really see he loves being at Liverpool and i really appreicate the things he has done for our team in the past. But football changes rapidly, and you need to adapt to your surroundings. The Premier League is getting stronger and stronger throughout, and better, more technically gifted players are arriving. Riise is proof of this. He is not good enough technically to play at the highest level. He runs in a straight line, can only use his left foot (which proved costly on tuesday) and does not have a very good footballing brain. I like the ginger lad, but he is just not good enough. He always gives 100% but that does not win matches, ability does. I have no doubt, if he is given the nod for the game at the bridge he will do is upmost to rectify his mistake, but i believe his time has come.

Funny how when Ronaldo doesn't perform against big clubs every thread is full of people making that point but Torres missed the only thing he's done and not a word.

Huge exaggeration there my friend it's not every thread , and actually there is only one person consistently questioning his record.......Me.
That's because Ronaldo is overhyped. Nobody's saying Torres is the best player in the world, therefore he's saved the same type of criticism. Not only that, i think you'll find that Torres' record against the better opposition is better than Ronaldo's,but i could be wrong.

2008

Mar 15 - (H) Reading (W) 3-0 (1 GOAL)

Mar 8 - (H) Newcastle (W) 3-0 (1)

Mar 5 - (H) West Ham (W) 4-0 (3)

Feb 23 - (H) Middlesbrough (W) 3-2 (3)

Feb 2 - (H) Sunderland (W) 3-0 (1)

Jan 12 - (A) Middlesbrough (W) 1-1 (1)

Jan 2 - (H) Wigan (W) 1-1 (1)

2007

Dec 26 - (A) Derby (W) 1-2 (1)

Dec 22 - (H) Portsmouth (W) 4-1 (2)

Dec 2 - (H) Bolton (W) 4-0 (1)

Nov 10 - (H) Fulham (W) 2-0 (1)

Oct 7 - (H) Tottenham (W) 2-2 (1)

Sep 1 - (H) Derby (W) 6-0 (2)

Aug 19 - (H) Chelsea (W) 1-1 (1)

Torres's league record. By my count that's one goal against top opposition and well over half were against relegation contenders.

He also scored against arsenel a few weeks back. Do you not remember this? By my reckoning that is 2 of the 3 teams in the top 3 he has scored against. He also netted against the leaders of Seria A against Inter.
The reason people are not picking apart Torres like they do with Ronaldo is because the circumstancs and situations are miles apart. No one is saying Torrres is the best player in the world. What Torres has achieved this season is remarkale for a striker serving his first season in a new league in a new country in a weaker team. I am by no means saying Torres is up there with Ronaldo after one brilliant season, that would be naive, he has alot of room for improvement. But i like that. His touch needs to improve. His goal scoring record away from Anfield needs to improve. He does make mistakes and sometimes makes the wrong decision. Imagine how good he could become if this season is not a fluke and he improves, which he will as he is still young.

The sides Torres has played, with those he's scored against in red:

Aston Villa
West Ham United
Chelsea
Sunderland
Derby County
P.ortsmouth
FC Porto
B.irmingham City (30 minute sub)
Reading
W.igan Athletic
Olympique Marseille
T.ottenham Hotspur
E.verton
Arsenal
Blackburn Rovers
F.ulham
Newcastle United
B.olton Wanderers
M.anchester United
Manchester City
Middlesbrough
Inter Milan

So he's only failed to beat four sides; one of which he came on against as a late sub and the other he's only played once this season, still to play again before the end. United are the only side that've kept him quiet every time.

But really, just saying he's only scored 1 goal against "top" opposition is unfair. Of the six Premier League games against Chelsea, United and Arsenal he's played 3.5 - he was injured for the Stamford Bridge game, rested for the Emirates one and was returning from injury in the Anfield match versus Arsenal (where he subsequently left the field at half-time). He has 1 goal from 3 big games that you can judge him on from the league. But then if you consider the Everton derby, which was huge for our season, you could count his goal there as one on a big occasion. Likewise in the Champions League, scoring vital goals against Porto, Marseille, both the latter where we needed to win to progress, as well as Inter and Arsenal.

The other night was a rarity really. He had similar games early in the season where he'd fluff chances but he's come on a lot that we don't expect it from him. Such games as United have seem him not score because he didn't get any chances, which were blatantly down to a lack of good delivery. That wasn't the case last night, but he didn't perform and that's that.

Anyway, as has been said, no-ones saying Torres is the best player in the world - he's in his first season in the Premier League - and that's obviously why he should be exempt from the same criticism as Cristiano.

I am secretly hoping this happens as Aurelio is out for three weeks as the injury was a lot more serious than it looked.
