real shame for Newcastle...

i thought that after all the pics and talk of him going to st. james's, that Newcastle had managed to pull off a real coup. But waking up and see that my club went out and blew 15.8 mil on this player brought a smile to my face. I am surprised we are willing to spend that amount following the success, or lack of, from the 16 mil player we bought last season! Smile

This was posted by someone on Coys today purported to be ITK....

Found out tonight from a 150% source that Modric was offered 30k a week wages by Newcastle but their offer was topped by Levy (and not by a small amount either) ... So all this about we dont pay top wages and Newcastle throwing money at players seems to be a thing of the past. All i can say is well done Mr Daniel Levy

Given to me by the same source that told me that Newcastle are still seriously trying to sign Henry despite the fact he doesnt want to go there (makes sense considering he said during the week that he would only join the scum in England)

i cant believe we only offered him 30k. martins is close to signing a new contract on 90k. How can you offer martins 90k and Modric 30k. This is just wrong...

He was only on half that before it got put up to that.

Newcastle have offered Obafemi Martins a staggering £26 million deal to stay at St James' Park until 2013.

Kevin Keegan is determined to strengthen his squad not weaken it and, as a result, Newcastle owner Mike Ashley has sanctioned a two-year extension to Martins' contract and a 50 per cent rise in wages to £90,000 per week.

And, as part of the deal, Martins has agreed to forfeit a £13m release clause inserted into his previous deal.

If he was only on half that, then it would be a 100% raise in his wages to 90k Confused
