As the season campaigns in Europe come to a close, and the transfer window about to open in full force. The transfer rumors are flying.

The big name in/from America is Jozy Altidore. Real Madrid made tentative inquiries in January for Americas/MLS prized forward possession but failed to lure him away as the MLS refused to sell him. However, with the summer transfer window quickly approaching, Villarreal has suddenly shown keen interest in Altidore. Previously it was said that Altidore would not be sold, and he would play another full season in the MLS before possibly be sold in the January 2009 transfer window but now with the likes of Villareal showing interest, the possibility of a sale this summer is more likely. Villarreal has already made an approach to MLS and New York officials about Altidore's availability ahead of the transfer window.

It'll be interesting to see how much they offer and if Real Madrid will also jump in and make a bid.

I may be the only one that feels this way, but in my opinion he is not ready to play for real of Villarreal. His work rate still leaves a lot to be desired. Again, just my opinion......... He is a very nice young player with immense upside, this much i will say.....

I fully agree, but it's the same situation as Freddy Adu. Adu wasn't ready to go to Europe and play for Benfica. And neither is Altidore ready to play for Real or Villareal. But if the MLS wants to help the American national team, they need to ship Altidore off ASAP as the experience he'll gain over at Real or Villareal (even on the bench or on the reserves squad) will be greater than what he'll get in the MLS.

I never thought Freddy Adu was good, even being a DC United fan, I was happy he was shipped off to Real Salt Lake. I still don't think he's good enough for Europe, but he has improved quite a bit since signing on with Benfica.

Adu is learning and has learned how to play the game mentally, I think playing at Benfica has improved his game, and he has said he has learned much from just being around the players.

I also think there is a big difference between La Liga and playing in Portugal, thus comparing the two situations is not really of the equal. If Altidore wants to improve himself, he needs to go play European football in Portugal, or better yet, the Dutch League where many US players have sharpened thier game and used this to move on. Jozy needs minutes, a challenge and a coach to put a boot in his butt when he decides to become a spectator on the field instead of a participator. I watched Eddie Johnson go this way, and I'd hate to see Altidore who I thing has much more skill end up the same.

Ultimately any move away from the MLS will help Altidore. The Dutch league would be the best option, but no one is calling from that area of the map. He'll definitely play on the Real Madrid or Villareal reserves squad. So he'll get his playing time, might not get it in the main squad, but the reserves are just as good for such a young player.

While my intentions are not or were not to bash Altidore or Adu, I do get the feeling that Adu is being a bit 'slighted' here, for whatever reason. And, I'm not going to get into a he's better than him discussion because it's only a matter of one's opinion, and that I can respect. But I will say that Adu's games have been as a substitute, so obviously his goal tallying is not going to be huge.

The only point I ever tried to make (and I thought I did) was that it would be better for Jozy to start his taste for European soccer in somewhat of a lesser league, (and no disrespect meant for the Dutch Eredivisie) instead of riding the pine at Real Madrid or as was pointed out, playing in reserve games. PSV for one, is full of examples where players have played for a season or two and used it to springboard onto bigger clubs.

Your lieing. Please get your facts write. Adu has started in a game for Benfica.

http://talkingtothedoll.blogspot.com/2008/02/benfica-moreirense-adu-to-start.html

First few lines as are follows.

First 15 minutes, Freddy Adu very active, with a couple shots and a few good combinations with DiMaria

3.05pm - Benfica, in control of the game, but unable to create clear dangerous chances

3.10pm - Benfica continues to pressure and trying their luck from mid range shots.

3.15pm - Adu - gets a yellow, for simulating the a foul inside the box, the ref changes his mind and calls the foul outside the box, clear foul.. controversy as to where the foul is commited, commentators call it a penalty.. ref calls it out of the box.

Yes off topic but dont lie.

Thanx

Lying (I'll spell it correctly for you) is a harsh thing to state, or maybe not for you. Having my facts incorrect is one thing (and I'll by only happy to admit I was incorrect, but I don't lie), but calling me a liar is a bit bold and assuming I made that statement knowing otherwise, which is not the case at all. It's probably better if I no longer reply to your posts, I find it difficult when people choose be be rude and harsh, and you my friend have made that choice. Confused

Well reason i put Freddy Stats up in the first place as for 1 he got mentioned and 2 he is playing in a "lesser league" and doing alrite there. Jozy would be good in Scotland i reckon like for Celtic or Rangers
