I can't see Crouch staying. Shame.

As for Sweinsteiger, i'd love to take him off your hands. He is a superb footballer, and will find his form again.

Aston Villa: Barry set for further talks
Quote:

Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill will hold further talks with Liverpool target Gareth Barry after Sunday's final Premier League clash of the season with West Ham.

O'Neill has held an initial discussion with the Villa skipper who has been the subject of a player-plus-cash offer from the Reds.

But the two sides have agreed to put further dialogue aside as Villa attempt to secure a UEFA Cup spot with victory over Hammers and hope Everton slip up against Newcastle.

"I've spoken to Gareth and we will have further discussions when the season is over," O'Neill said.

"He felt himself that he had been affected by the speculation. He felt it had affected his own game a little bit.

"He wouldn't want that to happen again with such an important game coming up on Sunday so we will speak again next week."

Villa owner Randy Lerner has reiterated to O'Neill his desire to keep Barry who has two years left of his current contract.

O'Neill added: "Randy has exactly the same opinion about Gareth as myself. I spoke to him the other day and he wants to make all attempts to keep Gareth at the club.

"He wants to try and improve the team rather than dismantle it. I don't think he is surprised that big teams are after the best players.

"But his view is he wants Villa to become a big team. That is why he took the club over in the first place, to help restore the club to where it was.

"Losing Gareth Barry is not really part of the plan and Randy really wants to keep him.

"There is no surprise in clubs being interested - but us wanting to do business is a different issue."

Barry has made it clear that he wants assurances from O'Neill about whether Villa can be capable of challenging the top four and he is keen to experience Champion's League football.

But reports suggest the 27-year-old is edging nearer to the Villa Park exit door.

So it seems like Getting Barry is not going to that easy with Villa wanting to hold on to him as much as possible. But IMO Liverpool will finally get him but its not going to be easy...

Well if Barry wants CL football, he won't be staying at Villa. Villa will never break into the top 4.

Aston Villa: Barry undervalued, says O'Neill

Quote:

Martin O'Neill insists Liverpool have undervalued Aston Villa skipper Gareth Barry at 10 million pounds as he reiterated his determination to try to keep the England midfielder.

O'Neill and Barry are due to have further talks after Sunday's final Barclays Premier League clash with West Ham about the future of the former Brighton trainee.

A players-plus-cash offer of around 10 million pounds for Barry was made to Villa by the Reds last week but not taken seriously by O'Neill.

And O'Neill is determined Villa can be on the same level as Rafael Benitez's outfit in the not too distant future despite Kevin Keegan's fears about the difficulty of breaking into the 'big four'.

"Liverpool talked about a 10 million pounds bid, which was some cash and some unnamed players," O'Neill said.

"That is very presumptuous of them, that the players they might be talking about, are the ones you would want - that is why I dismissed the whole thing.

"The whole story seems to have grown arms and legs and seems to be saying 'whatever Liverpool are asking for, they will get' but I don't see that as being the case.

"Is Barry undervalued at 10 million pounds? Absolutely, without question. This lad is playing for England.

"That is not to say we want to give a certain valuation and then, if Liverpool come up with it, we will do business. That is not what we want to do at all.

"I've spoken to Gareth but we will have further discussions when the season is over. He felt himself he got affected by all the speculation and that it affected his game a bit.

"That is something for Sunday's game that we wouldn't want to happen. We will speak again next week."

When asked if he thought Barry could play Champions League football at Villa Park, O'Neill admitted it was "a big ask" - as Newcastle boss Kevin Keegan had pointed out in respect of his own club.

O'Neill continued: "If Keegan thinks it is going to be difficult at Newcastle, the third highest club in terms of crowds, then I suppose it might be a realistic viewpoint.

"My own view is I don't think it is an impossibility. That is my viewpoint but it does take a lot of good players at the club to wrestle the initiative away from those big four.

"Maybe Kevin Keegan in the last day or so has given a realistic viewpoint of the league at the moment - but it is not something you stop aspiring to.

"The whole idea in the not too distant future is that Villa are up alongside Liverpool.

"We are going to do what it takes to keep Gareth at the club. The viewpoint is we are attempting to get up there with those teams in the top four."

I now think its going to be a bit complicated for Barry's move the Anfield...

Benitez: Crouch will cost £15million

Quote:

Rafael Benitez has slapped a £15 million price tag on England striker Peter Crouch on the day that he lost his first-team coach Alex Miller and confirmed that Harry Kewell will leave Liverpool.

And the Anfield chief also revealed that he had held talks with Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill over the potential transfer of midfielder Gareth Barry to Liverpool.

Benitez accepts that Crouch could have his head turned after a frustrating season when he has found first-team chances hard to come by - but the Spaniard insists he will not be leaving on the cheap.

"Crouch wants to play every week but knows he must fight it out with Fernando Torres," Benitez said.

"We keep seeing Portsmouth linked with the player but we have had no offer as yet.

"A £15m price tag would not be unreasonable."

On Kewell's departure, Benitez added: "We have tried to come to an agreement with the player and his agent, but that has not been possible.

"Kewell will leave the club at the end of his contract."

It is believed that Kewell has rejected a new deal on reduced wages.

Benitez also explained further the pending saga over Barry, and revealed that nothing more will happen until after this weekend's closing round of league matches.

He said: "I have spoken to Martin O'Neill, he knows my ideas.

"But we agreed to wait until the end of the season for any more discussions."

Benitez has also seen coach Alex Miller leave the club to take up a management appointment in Japan with JEF United Chiba.

He said: "We have some names to consider and will make an appointment soon."

So where is Crouch going to??? Do you guys know any clubs other than Portsmouth linked with him and will they pay the Money that Benitez wants???

Can't see anyone actually paying that. Probably just propganda to raise the price of him to say £10m

I think Rafa would accept 8 million maybe a bit less for him. Hes only saying high so he can get as much as he can for Crouch.

That he is. Although he probably feels £15m is fair after the likes of Bent, but with his contract down to its final year he'll know if he gets half of two-thirds of that then we're getting a very good deal and should take it.

It's a shame Sven's leaving Man City as that could have prompted him to move to Manchester, hence a bigger fee would've probably been involved. Portsmouth aren't exactly the big-spenders of some of the teams around them. There's always Newcastle mind.

£8m-£10m is a good deal for us. But yes Benitez will want as much as is possible. He won't refuse to sell this summer else Crouch would depart next year on a free, which would be a further financial disaster at the club.

In other news, Benitez has confirmed that Harry Kewell will leave at the end of the season. Apparently we tried to do a deal wherein he would have to settle for lower wages... obviously Kewell, fearful of whether he could survive on what could be half the income, was forced to decline.

Can't say i'm not glad! Although he is when fit an excellent player, and showed it on a fair few occassions where he managed to stumble onto the pitch (normally Champions League finals...), but simply was a disaster when it came to avoiding injury as we all know. There's no place for that at Liverpool to be honest - i know it ain't his fault but it's just a huge disadvantage having someone like that.

Hopefully we can replace him with someone able to stay fit, or - better still - replace Kewell and Pennant with one really top class winger.

ANDERSON SET FOR CHAMPIONSHIP LOAN

Liverpool winger Paul Anderson seems set to be shipped back out on loan next season in the Championship after impressing in League One for Swansea City by scoring ten goals.

Last week Anderson received the Young Player of the Year Award after some fine performances for Swansea, and two days later he received the League One trophy and a championship winners’ medal.

However, Liverpool want the 19 year old winger to spend more time on loan in order to assess his talent and impact in the Championship.

Anderson said: “I know I’m going back on loan, but haven’t got a clue for what team.

“I know there are quite a lot of clubs interested, but I’ll just have to wait and see what happens.

“Hopefully by the end of May we will have things sorted out and I can go and enjoy my summer.

“I would like to stay at Liverpool and give it a shot next season, but they want me to do a year in the Championship and see if I can step up to the next level.”

He added: “I was made up to get the award. It is always nice to be recognised by the supporters.
“It has been a long season – it’s been physically and mentally challenging.

“But playing my first year with a team that has been so successful has been really enjoyable although I understand it probably won’t be the same next year.

“I didn’t know much about Swansea before I went, but they are a massive club. They play great football and I think they will do well in the Championship.

“I don’t know whether I will end up back there on loan, but I know for a fact they won’t be relegated.”

Liverpool INTENSIFY BEHRAMI INTEREST

According to Swiss media reports, Liverpool are preparing to approach Lazio with a formal bid for their highly rated defender Valon Behrami.

Behrami, 22, has become a potential transfer target for a number of top clubs since even before his match-winning display against deadly rivals Roma in March.
Bayern Munich, Fiorentina, Milan, Liverpool, Valencia, Sevilla, West Ham, Portsmouth, Manchester City and Palermo are all said to be tracking the talented Swiss international, who is equally adept on the outside of defense or on the wing.

Asked about Liverpool's increasingly firm interest, Behrami's agent Alessandro Beltrami indicated that his client would be open to a move: "Maybe ... perhaps their interest will bring a rush for him."

Word is that the Biancoceleste are determined to hang on to Behrami, but would likely not turn down an offer in excess of 10m euro for the Kosovo-born wide-man, who still officially has three years remaining on his contract with the Italian capital club.

Lazio president Claudio Lotito will now have to make a full-court press in order to try to keep the player, who openly criticised him for leaving the stadium well before the whistle during the 5-1 thrashing at the hands of Milan earlier this season.

Liverpool TO HIJACK TOFFEES LA LIGA SWOOP

Rafael Benitez is hoping to pull the plug on Everton Football Club’s planned La Liga swoop.

The Toffees are hoping to land Spanish international winger Joaquin from Valencia, who are experiencing financial difficulty and could be prepared to let him leave for as little as £15million.

However, Benitez has been made aware of the situation regarding his former club, and he hopes he can nip in and prise the ex-Real Madrid star away from the direction of Goodison Park and towards Anfield.

The Reds manager will no doubt point towards a Spanish contingent of Jose Reina, Xabi Alonso and, of course, Fernando Torres as reason why Joaquin should pick the UEFA Champions League side.

Liverpool fans, how excited would you be if you could add Joaquin to your side as main provider to Torres? And what about you Everton supporters – would the thought of losing the winger to Anfield sicken you?

AGUERO SET FOR Liverpool FUTURE?

Could Argentine starlet Sergio Aguero be set for a move to Liverpool and a reunification with Fernando Torres at some point in the not too distant future? Well, if a recent interview with BBC Sport is anything to go by the teenage forward certainly has a liking for his former teammate's new club.

Having played alongside 'El Nino' at Atletico Madrid for one season before the Spaniard's departure for Anfield last summer, Aguero has stepped up this season to score 18 goals in La Liga to inspire Los Rojiblancos to the brink of Champions League qualification for the the first time in the club's history.

And in doing so, the 19-year-old has become one of the world's most coveted players despite his tender years, with Chelsea rumoured to be interested in adding him to their legion of multi-million pound stars.

But with Peter Crouch's future very much under the microscope, if Rafa Benitez is on the lookout for a top quality young striker to play alongside Torres, then personally, i'd be over the moon if that player was Aguero. To have the touch, vision, finesse and finishing ability at such a young age shows just why Atletico were willing to splash out over £20 million on the young man from Buenos Aires, who made his first team debut for Independiente at the age of just 15 to break Diego Maradona's long-standing Argentine record.

And when asked if he would ever consider playing in England and if he followed an English team, 'El Kun' hinted that Liverpool are the team he likes to see win the most (just like us):

"The Premier League is of course an attraction but so is the Spanish League, both because of their renowned footballers and level of play. But right now I'm enjoying my time here in Spain, so I'm not even thinking about change.

"I watch Premier League games on television but I'm more fixed on the players than on the teams, especially because in England the footballers are of a larger size.

"I do root for certain teams when watching Champions League for instance, like Liverpool since Fernando plays for them, but I am very content here."

That's fine Sergio lad, just promise us you'll join us here sometime in the future!

Some intersting stories there Ben, especially about Joaquin and Aguero. Joaquin would be a much more realistic target the Aguero though, we've already taken Atletico's star player once, i doubt they'd let us do it again.

Yeh the Aguero one was more someone just clutching at straws i think, clinging onto the fact he mentioned Liverpool. Perhaps in the future if he were to come to England it could be on, but there's no chance of him moving this summer i don't think.

Joaquin is more realistic as you say. If we were going to spend £15m on a winger though i'd prefer it to be David Silva... if we're to spend quite a lot on a player then i always prefer them to be young, like Masche and Torres were.

I'd be happy with any quality winger added to the squad though. We need to make that happen in the summer.

On another note, the "he's not English but speaks good English" Bosman signing - Maik Taylor? He's Northern Irish, so fits the bill, and we've been linked with him to replace Itandje. Seems appropriate. Would be good too, 'cause i'm not sure an out-field player on a free is wise after Voronin (i know there are exceptions, like Flamini, but most aren't inspiring).

I have no objection to signing outfield players on a free. Chelsea's most inspirational player of late was signed on a free - Michael Ballack.

As for Joaquin, obviously he would be a good signing, he would improve our wing massively, but i would prefer Silva. Imagine if we signed both! It would be like the Spanish armada in attack, with Torres, Silva and Joaquin.

I doubt Crouch will stick around at Liverpool...I personally think Benetiz has made a big mistake on keeping him on the bench for the majority of the season...

As for Schweinsteiger, we talking about my dreams coming true...he's a fantastic player and I'd love to see him at Liverpool with the #7.

JUVENTUS SWOOP FOR £15M Liverpool STAR?

Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso is believed to be a £15 million target for Italian giants Juventus.

The Daily Mail are reporting that the Italian club have the Spaniard in their sights after it appears he is likely to be replaced this summer.

Alonso has made just 26 appearances for Liverpool this season and may jump at the chance of playing regular football for a club who have a better chance of winning something.

Liverpool TO TURN TO SEVILLA STAR AFTER VILLA SNUB?

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez may turn his attention from Aston Villa skipper Gareth Barry to Sevilla midfielder Seydou Keita.

The Spanish boss bid £10 million for Barry last week but the bid looks set to get laughed out by the midlands giants who would seek £20 million plus to even consider letting their captain leave.

With Liverpool having a limited budget this season, Benitez may now turn his attention to Keita, who would command a fee in the £10 million range.

A Liverpool insider told The Sun: "Rafa has Keita very high up on his list for this summer and may well make a bid for him."

LAZIO SHAMBLES INCREASE Liverpool SWOOP HOPES

The Italian giants are in disarray on and off the field.

Sporting director Walter Sabatini and general secretary Giampiero Persichetti have quit the Rome club this week after Lazio's Coppa Italia defeat brought the curtain down on a poor season.

Star names are set to be sold off in the summer with Liverpool leading the chase for Swiss defender Valon Behrami.

West Ham, Portsmouth and Manchester City are also keen on the 22-year-old.

NO WAY JOSE AS REDS REJECT £25M BID

Inter Milan have confirmed Liverpool rejected a £25million bid for Steven Gerrard - with Jose Mourinho thought to be behind the move.

The reigning Serie A champions, set to appoint the ex-Chelsea boss as their new coach for next season, revealed that they made the cheeky approach around the time of the Champions League second round clash back in March.

That was the same time that Inter coach Roberto Mancini bizarrely admitted he would be standing down at the end of the season, only to backtrack on those comments as soon as speculation Mourinho was to be placed in charge surfaced.

The Portuguese coach made Gerrard his first priority when he took over at Chelsea in 2004, telling Roman Abramovich and Peter Kenyon to break the bank for the Anfield skipper - and almost pulled it off.

Inter are set to spend big this summer to revamp their squad and are keen to unveil a star name as part of their centenary celebrations.

The Italian giants have money to spend, as evidenced by a £25m bid for Liverpool talisman Steven Gerrard.

“We need to make a big signing for next season and Gerrard was at the centre of our thoughts,” an Inter official told The Sun.

Liverpool gave us the most emphatic response that he was not for sale.

"We have drawn up a list of alternatives. But if Liverpool decide to sell, Gerrard is our top priority.”

Liverpool BOSS HOPES TO RAISE £25M FROM PLAYER SALES

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is hoping to raise £25 million by selling some of the clubs fringe players this summer.

The Times are reporting that Scott Carson, John Arne Riise and Peter Crouch will be all put up for sale in a bid to proved the Spaniard with some extra transfer funds.

Benitez is also believed to be willing to listen to offers for Xabi Alonso, Jermaine Pennant, Steve Finnan and Andriy Voronin.
