Radojko Avramovic has put pen to paper on a new two-year deal as Singapore's national team coach, the Football Association of Singapore announced on Thursday.

Avramovic’s contract extension follows that of four other FAS staff coaches who have also signed new deals to extend their contracts with FAS. They are: Robert Lim, Lee Bee Seng, V Sundramoorthy and Kadir Yahaya.
“FAS is delighted to have secured the commitment of the coaches,” said FAS General Secretary, John Koh.

“Indeed our coaches at both the senior and youth development levels have played a vital role in our recent success.

“With the coaches’ continuous commitment, we are looking forward to build towards greater success, not only from our national team, but also our developmental youth teams, in the years to come."

While Avramovic professed satisfaction with the team's progress over the past few years, he is not prepared to rest on his laurels. The new year ahead, he believes, will be a most crucial test for the Lions.

“I am pleased and honoured to stay on as the Singapore national coach.

"The tremendous support that I received from the FAS Council, management, the Singapore Sports Council, my coaching colleagues, players, clubs and fans over my past two years give me great optimism that I can achieve good results with the Lions,” said the Tiger Cup-winning coach.

“I have started something here in Singapore and I want to finish it. We have started to change the face of the national team and that job is not finished yet.

"We are building a team for the future and 2006 will be a very important year for us. We have the Asian Cup qualifiers, possibly the Asian Games, as well as to defend the ASEAN Football Federation championship (formerly the Tiger Cup).

“With everybody getting behind the Lions, I am confident that we can do well.”

This looks like a positive move for Singapore, they need consistancy in their game, so keeping their manager will do them the world of good.

To be honest I don't see too many of their games, but I think Yeekiat(sp) is from singapore, maybe he could tell us what sort of team they are, and how good a coach Avramovic is.

I used too live in Singapore, 7 years all in. Great place and people!

They won the Tiger Cup a long while back now, apart from that they haven't really done much.

I like Home United in the S-League, i have their football top.

Well i have been back in Glasgow for like 3 years now, however i do still try too look out and see how Singapore are getting on. For a small island it has quite a large population of just over 4 million, obviously a large number are expats and other foreigners.

The national team is currently 92nd in the FIFA Rankings above the likes of Iceland, Indonesia, Thailand, Azerbaijan, New Zealand (haha Jono) and their nearest rivals Malaysia. Which is a very decent standing indeed for a nation such as Singapore.

Would be good though if Yeekiat could give me more of an update on local tournaments and cups e.g. Tiger Cup.
