GATTUSO EYES ENGLISH MOVE

Milan star Gennaro Gattuso has admitted he would be interested in a move to England.

The Italian international says if he was to leave Milan it would be his dream to try his luck in the Premier League.

The tough-tackling midfielder has long been linked with a move to Manchester United with Old Trafford boss Sir Alex Ferguson a confirmed admirer of Gattuso.

The former Rangers man says there are only two clubs he could not envisage himself playing for and that would be Celtic and Internazionale because of his allegiances to Milan and Rangers.

Ambition

"I would like to have the chance to play in the Premier League because I think that I have the characteristics to play there," Gattuso told Sky Italia.

"It is my dream and I have never denied that. When I leave Milan I will only wear the shirt of a foreign side. But Spain would be hard because it isn't a League that suits the way I play.

"It would certainly be impossible to play for Inter, just as it would be to represent Celtic."

Turning his attentions to this weekend's Milan derby, Gattuso admits his side cannot afford to lose to their bitter rivals as they battle to secure a place in next season's UEFA Champions League.

Huge

"Playing in these huge games like Sunday's derby is the best thing," added Gattuso. "They are the matches that give you a huge adrenaline boost.

"We certainly can't lose the derby. It could go either way. They are missing lots of players and we are going to go for it."

I think he could fit in at all of Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea. United have a fair few central midfielders but perhaps only Hargreaves who you could attempt to class as a defensive midfielder. Arsenal could lose Flamini which leaves a gaping hole next to Fabregas. Chelsea are looking to rebuild and well anyone with a reputation could be bought - they'd probably have to use 3 centre-mids though to accomodate him, Essien and one of Ballack or Lampard (or van der Vaart, or whoever they may sign).

Liverpool wouldn't need him because of Mascherano, unless we were to go with two hard-tackling defensive midfielders (which wouldn't leave us a great deal on the creative aspect).

Maybe the palisade-like midfielder that Spurs would relish? Some real steel in their for a change?

What do you think? Will Gattuso make his way to England this summer?

Can't see Chelsea or Man U wanting him with the defensive midfielders they already have.

He could be great for Tottenham though.

He's also been connected with Bayern. They will need a defensive midfielder sooner or later because Zé Roberto is 34 and will leave after next season and van Bommel ain't the youngest either.
Also Luca Toni has asked the club to sign another Italian.

I'd love to see him in Munich

Gattuso cracking player. Deserves to go to a team like Man United. Carrick get dropped tho?

Well obviously Carrick would get dropped if Gattuso went there. I can't see them signing him though, because they recently splashed out on Hargreaves, who is a very good player. They don't need Gattuso.

I would be surprised if Gattuso joined Man U in the summer as they have
Hargreaves and Carrick as defensive midfielders and don't need another one!

Juat a thought but could it be Man City not there rivals who he might consider joining?
If Big Phil Scolari takes over in the summer he could bring in all sorts of players with his connections.

We were linked with a move for him a while back. Would be just what we needed i reckon someone who will sit there get stuck in and win the ball back for us because we have no-one in midfield who can do that.

Who needs Gattuso when you have Nicky Butt Rolling Eyes

we have no chance in gettin him but it will be interesting to see where he goes. If Spurs get him they will be pushing for 5th place next season. The top four must be interested, he is worldclass!

Can't see him going to the big four because all the positions are taken. Although Makalele is getting on. I think he's too good for Spurs though, he could join a CL club.

Lampard is better than him and I don't think he'd fit in United way of playing. He could be a Vieira for Arsenal though.

He is to good for Spurs, but it depends whether he'll settle for a team trying to stride up the table than a side already at the top. He may be happy to play for them if he really is desperate to play in England and neither of the big four come in for him... or say if Tottenham have a great season next year.

Arsenal seems the obvious move if he were to go in the summer. Not sure he will though.

Depends on his price. Spurs i sense would love a player of his ability, regardless of if it's only for a couple of seasons.

Arsenal could lose Flamini

Australian Mark Milligan has impressed Wenger during a secret 10 day trial. He is seen as a direct replacement for the outgoing Mathieu Flamini. Milligan is very much similar to Flamini but also plays right back. At the moment it is all hanging on a work permit, thats what cancelled his deal to sign for Derby County but Arsenal are confident they can get it put through, proably because of their "Big 4" status.

I would see him as being like our Davids signing if it had been a couple of years earlier.

I think Milan's signing of Flamini increases the chance of getting Gattuso to Munich, especially if they don't play in the Cl next season.
He would be just the type of player we need. A first class defensive midfielder, an Italian (for Luca Toni) and a real fighter, someone who would only leave a running game in a coffin.
Also Milan seems to be interested in Willy Sagnol. We don't really need him anymore so a change for Gattuso would be the best thing that could happen.

I'd prefer he went to Bayern, so not to improve one of the English top 3 and also strengthen the foreign contingent in the Champions League.

Wouldn't say no to him going to Spurs though, as i'd love to see him playing in our league.

The above article does suggest he wants to move to the Premier League above anything else though.

sounds good

The Italian tv station Italia 1 reports that Gattuso will move to Bayern for about 15-20 million euros. Very Happy

That's about £12m-£16m yeh? Quite a hefty price for his age but undoubtably a quality signing if it happens.
