I was having a conversation the other day with a mate about great players who deserved more caps than what they actually earned, the ones that stood out mainly for me were Alan Hansen who only earned 26 caps for Scotland even though he's recognised as one of Liverpool's best ever defenders, the other was Steve Bruce who didn't even get one senior international cap for England even though he was a superb defender for Man Utd

Can anyone come up with many more who deserved more international recognition?

Les Ferdinand only got 17

Malcolm Macdonald only got 14 - ex Newcastle and Arsenal forward. His career stats were, 381 games and 193 goals. Was one of the best forwards ever to play for Newcastle!

Them are the only two i can think of, will add more later!

Chris Sutton wasnt the best but he only got 1 cap. Compared to people like Andy Johnson who are gettin in nowadays he was good.

Same with Alan Thompson, he could have taken the once cursed left midfield role for England, i really dont know why he only got one cap, or was it none...?

i didnt know that Embarassed

its a good thread this, didnt realise that great players were overlooked. Then you get bad players who seem to keep gettin picked on past ability (beckham). Not right...

Maybe a tad biased, but I believe Gary Mabbutt deserved more.

And Steve Perryman also, certainly was worth more than the single substitute appearance he earnt.

Matt Le Tissier - a great talent and perhaps his laid back demeanour was misunderstood by some managers. I remember him getting a well-earned chance to start a match, in a friendly in Dublin. That particular opportunity was completely put paid to by Combat 18 and other mindless idiots.

Andy Cole 15 caps. Maybe the 1 goal had something to do with it.
