One player who hasn't been mentioned but in my opinion deserved far more than his 10 caps suggests, is Ray Parlour. The Romford Pele was grossly underrated - a superb servant for Arsenal who could fulfill a number of roles. He would have been an awesome option coming off the bench and a very useful partner to Scholes or Gerrard if the England managers ever gave him a chance.

Of the names mentioned, Zola and Di Canio both warrented international selection for most of their playing careers. Raul Tamudo (10) and Guti (14) also deserve special mention.

Gazza, even you, I, or our one-legged Nan's could score 410 goals in 408 league games up there.

Was different back in those days Sparky ya fud. Scottish football was up there with the best around. He's the most prolific scorer in British history. Lack of caps was down to his religion and his employers. Catholics were the enemey in that biggoted country at the time. If he was a Protestant, he would have featured alot more for Scotland and cemented his name up there along with the greatest players of all time. Sadly he never received much global recognition

What era was he playing in - all joking aside, he has a very very impressive record.

From Liverpool, I think Steve McMannaman and Robbie Fowler should have more.

Rodney Marsh got too few - just 9.

He mainly lost he lost his chance when Alf Ramsey was England's manager, as it states on Wikipedia:

Marsh stated that Ramsey told him ‘I'll be watching you for the first 45 minutes and if you don't work harder I'll pull you off at halftime," to which Marsh replied: “Crikey, Alf, at Manchester City all we get is an orange and a cup of tea.”. He was never selected for the England team again.

His sense of humour cost him his job on Sky Sports too when he joked about Beckham not wanting to play for Newcastle because he was worried about the Toon Army (just after the big Tsunami in Asia).

It might not have been in the best possible taste, but at least he didn't use bad language Wink

Julian Dicks.

a vastly underatted left back who would have been a regular if it wasnt for his reputation and falling out with a couple of england bosses, including Venables. when Venables sent Ray Clemence, a member of his back room staff in the national set up to see Dicks and sound him out about playing for his country, Dicks, intensely hurt by being overlooked at international level over the years told Clemence in no uncertain terms what he could do with his caps.

a kind of international retirement, if you like! Wink

God yes I forgot about Big Eric - and David Ginola too, he was wrongly (in my opinion) blamed for France not qualifying for USA 94.

Forgive me if he has been mentioned already but Glen Hoddle comes to my mind..

It was a travesty that he didnt win more caps than he did just because he was technically gifted....

Another player who should have represented Scotland more was Alan Hansen....

I can only guess they already had 2 better centre backs as I cant belive he only won 20 caps?

Yeah but who was he gonna replace? Zidane? I doubt it. And Cantona dug his own grave.

Confused

Zidane pretty much peaked after them, its not about replacing anyway.

I still think both were well worthy of more International caps than they got.

Well Ginola peaked around 96-99 with Newcatle & Spurs & helping them win a Carling Cup which was around the same time Zidane was deystroying teams in Serie A & winning world cups & world player of the year awards.

And Confused

Sorry tdv I don't really get what you're tying to say.

It dosn't take away from the fact he deserved more recognition other than the infamous instance costing France a World Cup place in 94, as according to the French management at the time.

Players who deserved more caps
