Scottish FA chief executive Gordon Smith has revealed plans to revive internationals between England and Scotland are at an advanced stage.

Smith has held talks with Football Association counterpart Brian Barwick and claims the fixture is 'back on'.

Scotland and England have not played each other since their Euro 2000 play-off in 1999.

They met at Wembley during Euro 96, but prior to that their previous meeting came at Hampden in 1989.

Smith told The Sun: 'I've had discussions with Brian Barwick about resurrecting the Scotland v England games and it's definitely back on.'

Existing commitments mean there is little scope for the match to be played before the end of next year, although 2010 could be a realistic target.

'It might be 2010 before we get a game,' said Smith.

'The idea would be to establish some sort of relationship for one-off games or even have them biannually.'

wow, a friendly planned two years away?

and to then continue them once every two years?

does anyone really care? scotland are just another small nation riding the crest of a wave. they will go back into obscurity after a brief patch of form just like Rep of Ireland did.

why? Confused

it's always nice to see england's friendlies matches.. regardless of which teams're playing as well as the results.. not to mention if it's either scotland or wales.. Very Happy

They dont want us to beat them like we did the last time in a game of football.

Us scots are proud of our team no matter how good or bad they are. England on the other hand is totally different

You need a history lesson on the United Kingdom and then a history lesson on sports among the countries within the United Kingdom and then you'll understand.

a jock is a term for scottish people. just like paddy is a term for irish people. or taffy for welsh people.

perhaps you should step outside your tartan bubble. theres a wide world out there. dont let your bitterness eat you up.

if the england team loses.. that means they're not playing very well then.. and it goes the same to other teams which lose in matches..

but then i'm just a foreigner.. so yeah.. dunno much that 'deep'.. Sad
