Has anybody ever scored 50+ goals in 1 season, Pele, MaRadona?

In the English leagues:

The great Dixie Dean (Everton) 60 league goals 1927/1928 is the most ever, his tally was 67 for the season including 3 FA Cup goals and 4 international goals.

Terry Bly (Peterborough) 52 league goals in 1960/1961 is the most recent.

Only 5 players have ever scored more than 50 league goals, the two above and George Camsell (Middlesborough) 59 goals 1926/1927 and Ted Hartson (Mansfield) 55 goals 1936/37 and Joe Payne (Luton) 55 goals 1936/1937.

So anybody who's scored 50+ was living about a generation ago, he will write history if he does (he will not score 50+)

Why? What is going to be different about next season? Ronaldo is improving year on year.

there is more than enough examples for teams to follow as to how to play him effectively next season. So if he's still netting at the same rate, then shame on any manager that allows that to happen.

it would be something to score 50 goals in a season. You need to be consistent, very lucky with injuries but yeah he could do it... i think that will be his goal next season if he stays with Man Utd, along with FA cup and Carling cup Laughing which will probably be the only two competitions he hasnt won with them (Champions League final will be 2-0 to United)

Has it been done in the EPL before?

He'll be the first to score 50+ in the modern football, that's history.

Do these 'examples' miraculously appear during the close season?

I just find it weird how teams apparently learn how to play against players 'next season', but not during the latter months of the last season, when surely they'd of known how he plays by then?

I'll go along with that. As you say, defences will be extra wary of him but this might help Rooney and Tevez.

If someone told me before this season started that ronaldo would score 40 odd goals i would tell them they are crazy. I don't think he'll score 50 next season, but its possible. Now I am the loon Razz
