I know it means not much to you, English football fans, but I'm gutted Sad

Malin, you will be sorely missed!
Thank you for your fantastic performances on the pitch
and for the whole contribution to women's football! Cool

To be honest I do not know a lot about Malin but it is always sad when a top player retires from the game. I was reading the article on the UEFA site and it is impressive reading. She was not only a creator of goals but a scorer of them as well.

I saw Malin at the euro's and she looked impressive , it will be a blow for Sweden. Like Gooner said it's always sad when a top player retires but nothing last's forever. She's had a good career and given fans some great entertainment.

Actually if you saw her during Euro 2005 and thought she looked impressive,
I must tell you, she wasn't at her best then Wink
Or maybe she was playing at the wrong position,
cos after the Euros her club coach moved her from the midfield to the defence
and she started playing awesome again - and scored a lot!
Agent W. was lucky to see her play more than I did, she can tell Razz
And I will never forget her goal against Brasil in the WWC 2003 Cool
S-T-U-N-N-I-N-G! Cool

And here's an example of what we won't see any more Sad

It's gonna be weird to see someone else wear that no.9 jersey Confused
I just hope it won't be Seger Wink

Laughing Yes Agent Smith, I saw her miss a penalty kick! But I forgave her for that,
since her team MFF was playing against "my" team that time. Twisted Evil

World Cup 1995, 1999, 2003 (silver)
Olympics 1996, 2000, 2004
Euro 1995 (silver), 1997, 2001 (silver), 2005
5 time swedish champion

Impressive 38 goals in the national team as a midfielder.
Think it will take a long time before Sweden can produce such a player as Malin again.
Took care of most of the freekicks, penalties and corners.
Unfortunatly also a player followed by numerous injuries throughout her career.

Thank You Malla

Now that's impressive, isn't it? Cool

And I've seen that pic many times and have just now noticed there's 'Mallas' on the ball Laughing Embarassed Twisted Evil
Is that allowed? Laughing lol
(For those who don't know: Malla is Andersson's nickname) Wink

I wish! Unfortunatelly I was able to watch the 2003 WWC only on tv Smile
I taped most of the games though, and watched them 20 times each so far, I think Twisted Evil

I thought it was a bit strange that for a player of her magnitude, there was no official
ceremony at the end of last season by her local team (MFF) or any bigger announcement
by the national team coach.

Maybe she decided rather suddenly, but even so, there were only a few
brief words in the Swedish press, and not even an interview with Andersson
about her decision, nor a standard reflective look on her career. The Swedish
press was jerky to her the last 2 years, so perhaps this had something to do
with her avoiding them?

I can't blame her for not being able to do this forever. After all, she is not getting
paid for it, and she has another job. One can only go on for so long working what
is essentially two jobs. But I also think there will be a very big gap in Sweden's
team now.

Welcome aboard Legwork, would you like to introduce yourself in the Newcomers section? Very Happy

Malla has made the decision about retiring early this year,
that's why there was no ceremony at the end of last season Wink

And I agree, it is a huge loss for Malmo and Sweden Sad

I guess she is not too bad of a footballer,
but she was trying to 'kill' Wink Kelly Smith at the Euro 2005
and then showed no respect for her on Swedish TV,
so maybe that is why I am not so fond of her Wink

Anyway, it's SO nice to have you here - another Sweden and England fan
- that doesn't happen too often Very Happy Wink
Welcome aboard and enjoy! Cool

Today it was announced that Malin Andersson will join Marika Domanski Lyfors as an assistant coach for the swedish U21-team! Very Happy
She says she hopes to be able to share some of her experiences and what it will take to become a national team player.
Her first game will be against France in march.
