Brian McBride to play for Fire? or Toronto FC |
|
Word is McBride is interested in play for the Fire. He's currently with Fulham who are most likely going to be relegated at the end of the season. The catch though, is that Toronto FC has first dibs on him (don't know why or the stipulations behind this).

I would gladly take McBride if he decided to leave Fulham, if we were still up that is. He's a fearless leader, great in the air and on the floor. Very underrated by many i would say.

Apparently McBride's former club the Columbus Crew are now also said to be in the hunt to capture his signature.

Now that McBride has officially decided to come back to the US and play in the MLS, the rumors are flying. The most likely seems to be the Chicago Fire. The fans will be happy with the new, but a few players are a bit nervous. If McBride is to sign, at least one player will likely lose his starting XI spot, and if McBride is to get designator player slot money as looks likely as that's what he'll be asking for, a few players might be packing their bags.

Chivas doesn't need him. He'll just be a waste of space and money with Chivas.

Why not be greedy? Players get injured and McBride comes in. Id rather have him than Razov

Because the MLS has a salary cap of $2.2m it's up to right now I believe. That means the salary of all players need to be below that amount. McBride will be asking designated player money, which means he'll take up a designated player slot (aka Beckham Rule), and I'm not sure if Chivas have one or not. If they do not have one, they'll have to trade for one with another club (if another club is willing to let go of theirs). Once that is acquired and the player is signed, $400,000 of his salary goes towards the salary cap while everything above that is exempt. So that's a big chunk of resources for players taken away from the club for a player that you may or may not need.
It's just the way the MLS is right now. It's a complete different ballgame from that of Europe where clubs can spend as little or as much money as they want for players. |
