Khan can 'beat' Manny Pacquiao or David Diaz |
|
Amir Khan wants to fight the winner of next week's world title clash between Manny Pacquiao and David Diaz if he disposes of Michael Gomez on Saturday.
Khan, 21, defends his Commonwealth lightweight title in Birmingham on Saturday against Gomez, a former British super-featherweight champion. Filipino superstar Pacquiao, one of the world's best pound-for-pound fighters, is challenging for Diaz's WBC belt. "Diaz and Pacquiao are great fighters, but I could beat them both," said Khan. "I'm fighting in front of a 10,000 sell-out on Saturday night so I think I'm one of the main men in the division. "And by the end of the year I'm not just going to be one of the main men, I'm going to be number one, everybody's going to be after me. Tbh, I don't think he's ready to fight Pacquiao yet, 2/3 more fights. |

Pacquiao is in a whole new league, and would put Khan down early in my opinion. He would be jumping into a beating. What he needs to do is concentrate on improving, and gaining experience. He needs tougher fights so we can see how far he has come on, however Pac-man will be to big a step up at this moment in time.

Yeah, my thoughts as well. Too much of a step up at this time for Khan, he needs to keep doing what he is doing and continue climbing the ladder. Fair play to him for his ambition but he does not want to under any circumstances jump into a fight such as this where he would more than likely be seriously beaten, t would do untold damage i would expect to his career. If he continues like he is though, it's not going to be long before these kind of high profile fights are on the table for Amir. |

Im not sure i know pacquaio is a really good fighter but khan is doing really well now. Id expect pacquaio to win but people might be surprised by how well amir might do

Can I just how pleased I am that Amir has said that no matter how famous he gets he will never leave England like Beckham or Hamilton. He wants to stay in his beloved Bolton. Nice to see an sportsman who hasn't and wont forget his roots.

Agree with what everyone has said....
Khan is miles behind Manny Pacquaio,he needs to quickly improve his defense because someone like Diaz or Pacquaio will just blow him away within 2 or 3 rounds,Khan is far too easy to hit and i'd hate to see what would happen if someone with power came up against him |

See the Khan fight last night? This joker reckons he could take out Pac-Man?!
Khan's greatest plus point is his handspeed, and that's what won him the fight yesterday. But yet again he was kissing the canvas and it was done by a journeyman boxer. Gomez is way past his best but he still had Khan in trouble. The referee stopped the fight too early. Gomez was on the defensive but he was never going to get knocked down there. Most of Khan's punches missed him at the end. Khan hit some brilliant combinations but I question how hard he actually hits. These rapid fire combinations look spectacular but Gomez withstood them. And we all know that Khan is far too easy to hit, he needs to tighten up that defence. These would be the two biggest question marks I'd have about him. My concern for him is that a couple of domestic fighters have managed to floor him and yet he is eager to fight for a world title now. No chance. |

maybe something to do with the media hype, tv cash promoting your every fight and sponsorship companies promoting him? even audley harrison fought with crowds that big.. and more. shows you what a bit of PR can do for you. |

Thankfully Frank Warren can see sense and has told him he needs a few more fights before he even considers any world title challenges, lets hope Khan listens before he is shown up big time

Let's hope Khan doesn't listen and gets shown up big time He's getting way above his station thinking he can take out Pacquaio. He's not so cocky now that a journeyman put him on his arse. |

Yeah after watching that Gomez fight just further enforced my view that a fighter with the caliber of who Khan says he wants to fight would absolutely destroy him. His openness when defending would be exploited so quickly by a top level fighter and it would not be nearly as easy for him to let fly and land those trademark flurries of his. I personally like Khan, and although of course i realise that cockiness and arrogance is essential in every fighter to a degree, i do seriously hope he ain't getting too big for his boots at this crucial stage of his career.

does anyone else think it would be quite funny if Khan adopted Joe Louis' nickname from now on?
