Hibs are ready to listen to offers for star striker Derek Riordan after he turned down a new contract offer.

Boss Tony Mowbray insists the 22-year-old was offered terms that would have made him one of the club's highest earners.

But as Riordan only has a year left on his contract, Mowbray is keen to raise a transfer fee in a bid to avoid another Ian Murray-type scenario.

That will spark a massive scramble among English outfits, including Derby, whose manager George Burley took in Hibs' game against Rangers on Sunday - and both Old Firm clubs in the race for the sensation's signature.

Mowbray said: "We are not getting anything positive back from Derek and it seems there is nowhere else to go other than to listen to offers.

"We don't want Derek to get into the same situation as we have with Murray.

"He was made an offer which would have made him one of the top two or three earners at the club."
