Manchester City are set to reward Andy Cole for his efforts since moving to Eastlands in the summer by handing the former England international a new deal.

City chief Stuart Pearce raised a few eyebrows when bringing Cole to Eastlands last summer, but the veteran forward has justified the faith by forming a fine partnership with fellow new boy Darius Vassell.

Cole indicated last month that he wanted to extend his stay at Eastlands and City boss Pearce expects a fresh contract to be inked in the near future.

"The contract has been agreed with his agent, and all it needs is his signature," Pearce told the Daily Express.

"Andy has been a good man to have around this place. He has done well for us; he is a good influence on the young players and he wants to stay at this club for another season."

It would appear that Cole has hopes of remaining in football after hanging up his boots, as Pearce added: "He is hoping to go into coaching and if he wants to do any work with the senior players here then I'm happy to let him do it.

"The same applies to any of my senior players. People gave me a leg-up when I started coaching, and I'm happy to do the same."
