With more and more fans becoming disillusioned with their clubs for a wide variety of reasons and the way local pride and community spirit of clubs is being completely eradicated will we see more and more British people flocking to foreign shores in order to follow the game they love?

We have La Liga increasingly on our screens through Sky and in many ways the coverage is just as extensive as the Premier League and with cheap flights and very cheap match tickets for foreign games it really is just as easy to follow Spanish/Italian football as it is English football these days. when you factor in that some people travel the length of the country to get to an away game it can often be cheaper and faster to jump on a plane to watch a foreign game.

Is there a chance that rather than FC United of Manchesters popping up all over the place people will simply 'go foreign' with their support?

I hope so.

The A-League is very appealing! Smile

I like to watch as many leagues as possible (time permitting), except the A-league which is garbage.

I would never turn my support to another team, be it English or foreign.
I would definatly like to go to a few foreign games though, purely for the experience of it. I've been to the Nou Camp, but I want to go again to watch a proper match. Also the Bernabau and the San Siro. I wouldn't be supporting the teams, obviously I would do the obvious thing if the team score or let a goal in, to get my reactions right, but I just want to taste the different atmospheres. But at the end of the day, nothing will compare to WHL Smile

i would not call them true fans then if they did ....i think you said yourself in another thread that although you have become depressed and frustrated at the way your beloved West Ham have been run over the last few years and despite the fact they are average one week and super the next and also the manager merry go round that happens once every 6 months currently ...you would never desert them or suddenly say `i`m going to support Barcelona` ....and pop over to Spain for the weekend ..

I would never support anyone other than Arsenal .... its not about how cheap a football match is or how well a club is doing ..for me it is in my blood .....it does not compute ..error ....like a robot ....my programming simply does not include an alternative ...

I've already done it to a degree, whilst I go and watch FC United as a season ticket holder and a founder member, I am still a Manchester United fan, I am not what I consider to be a 'supporter' as they dont get a penny from me, and they wont until the fans have a share and a say in the running of the club, so probably never.

I had already decided to stop going, I didnt even bother the the cup final in 05, and my last United game was Southampton away, the lads that met in the curry house in Rusholme and decided to put the idea in motion saved me from a life watching Harrogate Town on a saturday afternoon with all the Leeds rejects.

I now have the best of both worlds, I get to watch MY football club stood on terraces singing with my mates, I can go home and away, fare enough its Guiseley and Nantwich rather than Anfield and Middle Eastlands, and nine times out of ten, seeing as United rarely kick off at 3pm saturday, I get to watch the game in a pub full of fellow reds.

I just like football and watching football is more fun when you have a team to support which is why I picked a team to support in Spain as I watch a lot of Spanish football.

I disagree tbh, a fan is someone who watches on the telly or in the pub, never goes and doesnt buy and official merchandise, so I am a Manchester United fan.

A supporter is someone who attends matches and/or buys official merchandise, so I am an FC United of Manchester supporter.

This is purely my opinion of course. Very Happy

Well i'd say teams but no one really stands out lately.

Sydney started well but dressing room problems have really affected us. Also Shannon Cole (see avatar) lost form around this time so I think he may be involved. When he coems back from injury I hope he gets back to form. The boy can hit a dead ball better than Beckham. 3 league games, 2 goals and I think 3 assists in his first professional season.
