'Wanted' Spurs Fans Pictured As Hunt Grows |
|
The Spurs fans who were allegedly directing abuse towards Sol Campbell have had their faces printed in national newspapers and all over the Internet in a bid to find out who they are so they can be 'questioned'.
this is utterly disgusting. in an age of human rights how can this be allowed? whether you agree with what was supposedly said or not how can it be justified that those pictured will now be spotted by employers, family and maybe teachers (a couple of them look young) and automatically assumed guilty. how many of us have seen the parents of Baby P for example? their anonymity was respected and granted and yet these people are shown all over the world because they could possibly have said a few naughty words. i refuse to put the link up because i am so disgusted that football has gone this way. it could happen to anyone of us who get frustrated during a game and shout the first thing that comes into our heads. If there were repeated words why were the stewards not doing there job to either difuse the situation or eject those responsible? going down this route is heavy handed and i cant believe it is even allowed. what do you make of it all? should those people have their photo shown in a bid to identify them? Discuss? |

Disgusting.
I've seen some of the 'Wanted' fans and they do look like a mixed bunch. Students, elderly, and yobs alike. No other country would do it, so why English police? Couldn't they have done this in private using the photographs? Seemingly not...terrible work done. These guys reputations, jobs or relationships could be on the line. |

Racist chanting is becoming part and parcel of the game again, maybe it never really went away no matter how many campaigns are run. Sol Campbell and other players just have to accept thats how it is, take the money and keep their heads down. Hunting down what many will feel are decent Spurs fans will be of no benefit to anybody. For eveyone one of them found there are probably another 5.000 out there. Wonder what they think of Ledley King?

It is human rights abuse.
The privacy laws in this country are none existent. Large conglomerate companies are the worst offenders for abusing the individuals privacy rights in the UK...because the laws are weak. All we have is the data protection act which is useless in these circumstances. It's the tip of the ice-berg.......CCTV, filtering email, tracking vehicles.............big brother is watching you. |

What ARE you talking about?
Anyway.... As it says on the site ABSOLUTELY FILTHY!! I can't believe there has been so many Hotscum fans in here disgracing our fans for booing our player's poor performance and yet Sol Campbell has been subject to the most disgusting in human chants from Spurs fans football has had to hear for a long while now. How long has "Get Racism out of football" been going now?? You even hear that idiots from other clubs that might shout rascist abuse get told to pack it in by there own fans!! I'm glad these clowns have been picked up and I hope they get grassed up and the book thrown at em!! Complete mindless losers! |

I don't really think the Police should relese photos of people as if they get it wrong and let's say one of the people had nothing to do with it, there reputation in whatever they do will be tarnished even if they are proven innocent. I have no problem with them showing the photos of these people after they have been charged with whatever they are being charged with.

But I believe the CCTV has been studied and these individuals were found to be shouting the abuse to Sol Campbell. That's why they've been posted to bring them in.....to be charged.
SCUM!! |

Racist chanting is inexcusable but putting the pictures of the culprits into the public domain doesn't seem like the best way of handling it. However, if a street mugging or any other serious crime is caught on CCTV then the pictures are frequently used in public appeals, such as on Crime Watch. Should we use cameras to catch some law-breakers and not others?
At the end of the day, these people wouldn't have their pictures in the public domain if they hadn't acted so despicably. It's very sad to see the right to privacy in this country slowly fading away but I don't really have any sympathy for these individuals. Perhaps this type of Police response will even help to deter people from racist behaviour in the future - who knows. Pokey: not all Arsenal fans booed Eboue and likewise not all Spurs fans advocate racism, but each club is bound to have a small minority of idiots - it's unavoidable. No complete set of fans should be collectively tarred with the same brush though, so talking in the simplified terms of 'our fans' and 'your fans' is pointless. |

It's just the typical way the police force is nowadays, they want help from the public with all the hard work while they can roam around in their cars at night thinking they own the country by picking on innocent people doing nothing (yes it happened to me lol)

Yes, its terrible when these things happen. <--- My Opinion

Crimewatch, isn't that what they do? Post CCTV pictures/sketches/photos of potential criminals or wanted criminals for to help solve these crimes and prevent it from happening again.
I don't see it as such a big deal. It's important to find these guys and charge them if proven guilty. Public appeal would be the only way of finding them surely? Baby P's parents were known, caught and under arrest so publicising their faces wasn't really necessary with regards to helping solve the crime or find them. If a gang of youths were standing in the town centre shouting constant abuse at me personally, then I would hope that the cops would check CCTV to get their faces and make a step in the direction of trying to find & charge them. If the cops refuse to do nothing (and cracking down on football/racist abuse/violence is a big issue) then there'd be much more of an uproar from people like you. |

If the police are 100 percent sure that the people who allegedly
racially abused Sol Campbell are the ones in the photos then I support them and hope these so called fans are prosecuted..... There is no place in football anymore for racism and anybody who thinks its ok to chant abuse at a footballer just for the colour of his skin is a fool and should be banned from all football grounds. In this case it wasnt just disgusting racial abuse but also homophobic singing directed to Campbell by Spurs fans. I don't care if they think there human rights have been abused by the police publishing these pictures. It was a sorry episode for football and our national sport and disgraceful behaviour by a bunch of idiots If I was Sol Campbell that day I would have walked off the pitch in protest. The referee could have stopped the game also and asked the players to leave the field. |

I think you guys have the wrong end of the stick on this one, especially Pokerqueen.
They havent identified people yelling racist abuse at him at all, theyve managed to get pictures of some of the 4000 people that were singing the normal Spurs anti-Campbell songs that tens of thousands of fans have been singing for years now. There isnt any racist element to them at all. Thousands of people were singing those songs that day so why single out these 16 people? If I were one of them id turn myself into the police right now and fight it tooth and nail. Why couldnt they just say they were miming the lyrics? Unless the police actually had a microphone handy to them then their case goes out the window. I think its disgraceful by the police to distribute the pictures of these people in the public domain. |

Oh dear...
This sh1t is just going to open a whole new can of worms. OK, if this is acceptable, then the next time the entire Bobby Moore stand start hissing at Spurs fans, I demand that the national newspapers show every boatrace in that part of the ground, no arguments. But seriously, is this the road we really want to go down? Technically, there's nothing wrong with exposing them to the public (it isn't against the law) but this is an extremely over the top reaction to a few ugly football chants. It's like a manhunt ffs - equivalent to how the 21/7 tube bombers were exposed in the papers!! It's a disgraceful overreaction, worse than actual chanting in my opinion, especially when you consider that some of those guys could be innocent. |

Could you give me a brief idea of what the "normal" Spurs anti Campbell songs are all about Jono? Maybe this time it just got out of hand if there were not enough stewards around to keep the peace............... |

Not on the forum I cant bud, as they are offensive and pretty disgusting really so against forum rules. |

We see mug picture ID on regular basis in the paper for wanted people so I don't see a problem to be honest, I thin the police are slow to solve that problem to be honest.

Its interesting how the plod didnt pick out any of the black Spurs fans that were there singing their hearts out that day just like everyone else, would put a bit of a dent in their racist argument.
