Newcastle United's Alan O'Brien admits he is unsure whether his future lies at St. James' park.

Despite making his first-team breakthrough this season the Republic of Ireland youth international has yet to be offered a new deal.

The 20-year-old Dubliner scored on his senior debut during his loan spell at League Two promotion chasers Carlisle, before returning to Newcastle and making a substitute appearance in the FA Cup win over Mansfield.

Though, with no new offer on the table, the youngster could be looking for a new club in the summer.

O'Brien told the Irish Daily Star: "It's been great to get a few games in lately but my contract is up in June and I don't know if I'll be kept on.

"I got a two-year contract at the start of last season, but I didn't get a chance in the first team until this month when we had a lot of injuries.

"I'll find out soon enough if I'm going to be offered a new deal, I've always wanted my future to be with Newcastle."

O'Brien signed from Irish side St Joseph's Boys in 2001, but has only made a total of eight first-team appearances in that time.
