I think if Owen stays he will be next captain.

I would like to see Shay Given get it because of his loyalty to the club, however i know some people don't like their keepers being captain.

I think scottie parker should be our next captain as he sits in the middle of the park and he gives everything to this team he also displays the right atributes to replace alan as our next captain since he joined i think hes been our player of the season by far as even tho I think Shay deserves it due to his loyalty to this club I just prefer having a outfield player rather than a keeper as our captain. THe people who are suggesting owen as our next captain i dont think that would work hes just not a natural born leader

Shay, all the way.

He was in awesome form today, and yes, he's been very loyal to the club.

I want to say Shay Given, but I also would prefer an outfield player!
I want to say Scott Parker but that's not me copying everyone else, so what the heck I'll throw Nobby into the mix!

(Does anyone else want Jenas back??!!) Shocked

After watching us against Southampton today, I take back my recommendation for Parker!! Well no that's a bit strong perhaps. Has he been captain B4?
I like the lad, but we were so disorganised it was untrue. A bunch of headless chickens!! There did not seem to be any communication between anyone!! I know sooooo many people will disagree with me on this, but surely this is part of his role as captain?

Question

On an entirely different note - WELCOME BACK DYER!!!!!!!!!!!!! Was fantastic to see him back, and am well chuffed he scored.
(He went off absolutely cream crackered(!) but his standing ovation was thoroughly deserved!) Very Happy

(And I take your point about JJ hitmanjr !)

Very Happy ...Greetings, been a while but I have been extremely unwell and in hospital ( gall bladder.)

Criteria for a captain is the ability tp earn respect and show leadership by skills, actions, ability , crediblilty, motivational (people skills), maturity, the ability to inspire and a fire in their belly that cannot be put out by any bugger.

Whilst I think Shay Given has been an inspirational role model and fantastic ambassador, obviously loves the toon and is world class; from a motivational point of view it is my opinion that Parker has the edge here.

We have all heard of his desire on and off the field, in the change rooms etc etc.

Last time he jumped at the chance and treat the arm band with great pride as is the right thing to do unlike a certain other individual.
Parker would put his life on the line every game as we have seen and that will do me very nicely thank you for that is the measure of the man who earns the right, .............no less.

Scott Parker would be a good choice...though Bobby did try to make Kieron Dyer captain for a while [to calm him down]...wouldnt be a bad choice, i suppose...

Its just a shame he can't play more than 2 games in a row.

Surely he's setting a good example for the young lads? Laughing

On a more serious note, Given looks like leadership material but I've never like the idea of keeper captains.

I'd go with Shay, he definately deserves it for staying there so long, but maybe they'll give it to someone like Owen, someone reletively new to the team but is a good force upfront.

But I don't think he's playing often enough to deserve it.
