Bugno wants Bergkamp in blue

By DAVID LEWIS

March 03, 2006

THE future is orange for Sydney FC with the A-League club yesterday unveiling a wish-list of guest players for next season which includes Dutch stars Edgar Davids, Jordi Cruyff and Dennis Bergkamp.

Chairman Walter Bugno wants one of the three to come here for four matches.

Also in Sydney's sights are former England star Alan Shearer, who is in a co-coaching and playing role at Newcastle, and Japan's Kazu Miura, who had a vivid six-match stint for Sydney last year.

"Look at Davids and Bergkamp. If either were available then we'd have to be interested," Bugno said.

"They are sensational players. We've discussed Davids (at board level) but we are not sure of his situation. Both he and Bergkamp have a huge amount to offer."

A-League clubs can recruit two "guests" next season and after the success of the Dwight Yorke experiment, Bugno insists players with life still in their legs will win out over clapped-out stars.

As everyone is pointing out on a football radio show here, Bergkamp doesn't sound likely - a fair bit of flying would be involved.

It's strange that they've been so public about specific targets. I don't think you need to worry about Davids though, Jono.

I don't really see the sense in the whole 'guest' thing. Players popping in and out all the time doesn't seem such a good idea.

Bergkamp has given Arsenal services that haven't been bettered by anyone else IMO. His duties here are done and he will leave. He always said he'd go to Ajax, but I think Dennis will pack it all in. Since he's still fit and loves the game, I think this move could be possible.

Good luck Dennis, wherever you go.

Hands off Davids, don't think they could afford his wages any way, certainly will be needing these if he plays in Austrailia though thats for sure!: Cool Laughing
