The World Cup squads haven't been selected yet. I thought he retired from International football though. Best waiting til the squad is selected to find out.

Maldini retired from the national team after the 2002 World Cup.

There you go pauliec. Question answered. The young full back of Fiorentina, Manuel Pasqual has been selected - To his surprise. Unsurprising really, he's been excellent for Fiorentina all season.

De Rossi, Perotta and Vieri have all been selected. Fillippo Inzaghi hasn't been picked. With Alex DP, Luca Toni, Gilardino, Cassano and Totti on the list for striking options.. it's mouth-watering. I'll be buying an Italy shirt quite soon. Laughing

Just wonder if Totti will find full fitness, match fitness and form after breaking his ankle last week. Would be terrible if he missed the WC. I think the Italians have a great chance of winning it this year.

I agree, i think the Italians are looking in good shape this year. Buffon, Nesta, Cannavaro, Del Piero, Totti, Cassano, Toni, Zambrotta, Gilardino etc. They have such a strong squad, but to be fair the Italians always do and just never fulfill their potenial.

He is more than capable, you never know, if Lippi issues an SOS to Maldini he might accept it. I would love too see Paolo back in an Italy top.

Is Paolo Maldini on the Azzuri roster?
