Basques are people from the Northern region of Spain. They have for years tried to have their own separate and independent country. The Spanish group ETA, who are regarded as terrorists have been fighting for an independent Basque country for years.

In football, the most famous Basque footballer is probably Xabi Alonso Very Happy

more or less. They also have players from Navarra (a province next to Pays Basque), and they had some french players like Lizarazu and the coach Luis Fernandez.

Only thing I know about basque is ETA. This question is a little fuzzy. If it is about football, would love to follow it, but if it is about politics, I am out Arrow Arrow

Yeah lol, I think we still haven't answered jamesmoggy's question.

"Are Basques liked?"

Perhaps its a little political.

In fact I don't understand the question... I mean, the fact of being Basque is not a reason to like them or not, lol. If the basque is a bad person, then I don't like him/her, but if it's kind, then I do!
This is like asking if you like the italian people. It depends, lol

Ah ... thats true.

I, for one, love Xabi Alonso to bits and hope he stays at Liverpool till the end of his career.

I get the feeling that the question maybe reflects that the political so often gets tied in to anything relating to the region. But leaving that aside, we can safely point out that for a relatively small region it continues to produce a lot of good footballers - and Xabi heads that list, an Anfield legend already and one of the keys to our continuing development.

Think it's a bit of a stupid question..

It's like saying;
Do you hate Yanks? Yeah
Why? Because they're Yanks.

Just an example though! I love yee Oranje, really I do! My fellow Gooner.

Xabi isn't a hateful player. He's an excellent pro and a great footballer.

The question is.. Do you hate Arjen Robbens?
