Denmark Women v England Women |
|
England have been boosted by the news that captain Faye White will be fit to play after picking up minor knee and calf knocks in the win over Finland.
Another win in front of a partisan crowd will put the hosts into the semi-final stage of the tournament. But they face a hard task against the Danes, who won their qualifying group. Denmark opened their Euro 2005 campaign with a 1-1 draw against fellow Scandinavians Sweden and know a win is now imperative. Although England coach Hope Powell was less than impressed by her team's opening performance in beating Finland 3-2, she admitted the other result in the group suited the host nation. "I'm pleased, I think," she said. "We're top of the group and they've got it all to fight for. "I said at the beginning I think both groups are evenly matched and that makes it exciting and gives everybody a realistic chance of getting out of the group - and what a great start to the tournament. "That wasn't our best performance by a long shot. They know in themselves if we judge it against the games that we've had previously this doesn't match a lot of them. "The nice thing is that we didn't play particularly well, for whatever reason, but we won the game." |
