Real Madrid president Fernando Martin said he will sign the team's new coach for next season within "two or three weeks."

That would appear to confirm that current coach Juan Ramon Lopez Caro will not continue after June. Martin gave no indication whom will be Madrid's sixth coach since it last won a trophy in 2003.

"We'll soon have a new coach, probably in two or three weeks," Martin told Canal Plus TV late Monday.

Sports daily Marca said Tuesday that Martin may offer the position to AC Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti, even though his contract runs to 2007. Other reported candidates are Juventus' Fabio Capello and Liverpool's Rafa Benitez.

Martin took charge after Florentino Perez resigned on Feb. 27th.

Well I hope its not Rafa. His actions lately is hinting that he's comitted to Liverpool long-term. I find it odd that any manager now will agree to coach Real for next season even when the season hasn't ended.

Unless of course its Vicente Del Bosque whom they are after.

I really don'r see Rafa going anywhere, and whoever it is I believe will want to bring in some of his players, or at least those he's worked with.....Some players might be leaving Real.....

A secure coach wouldnt be interested.
What for? To be sacked in less than one season.

I disagree. If that was true, Rijkaard wouldn't have gone to Barcelona, or Mourinho to Chelsea. Real Madrid will always be Real Madrid. Florentino has gone, and that's an important reason for some coaches to come. And they will earn more money here...
I wish Vicente Del Bosque could come, but I think it's gonna be Capello (if Ronaldo leaves Real)

So with that statement, you are implying Real will never get a quality coach nor will they ever be a force again? You may need to clarify that one Afrinux..... Confused

I think that coach sacking thing was a habit of the past and the habit has gone with Florentino Perez.

I have listened in the radio that Ancelotti will be the coach of Real Madrid next season. Still that he has signed a new contract for Milan till the year 2008, he will be the next Real's coach. But perhaps the difference will be that Madrid won't say it till Milan are eliminated of the Champions, that sure that will be when Barça beat them Very Happy

Here's an article about him from ESPN..

Quote:
Real Madrid land their mystery new coach

MADRID, March 22 (Reuters) - Real Madrid president Fernando Martin has decided who will take charge of the first team next season but says he will not be revealing the new man's identity just yet.

'I know who will be the new coach and I'm not going to name any names,' Martin told Spanish daily El Mundo in an interview published on Wednesday.

Martin, who took over as president last month following the resignation of Florentino Perez, did, however, make it clear that the new boss would exercise greater power than he did under his predecessor.

'I've scoured the globe to glean information on all the possible candidates and I've got one thing completely clear. The new coach will be more powerful and will play a fundamental role in the construction of the squad,' he said.

'It shouldn't be the case that the coach pulls in one direction and the club in another...he should have a lot of weight and there should not be too many people in his way.'

Martin said that present coach Juan Ramon Lopez Caro would not continue beyond the end of the season but added that he hoped he would remain at the club in another capacity.

'He is a great coach, but needs more experience. He has done everything in his power and I think he will lead the team into second place. I'm counting on him to continue developing inside the club.'

Leading candidates for the post of Real coach such as AC Milan boss Carlo Ancelotti, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger and Liverpool's Rafa Benitez have all ruled themselves out of the job.

Juventus coach Fabio Capello, who led Real to the league title in 1997, has hinted he will remain with the Serie A club, leaving former coach Vicente del Bosque, ex-Real Madrid players Bernd Schuster and Hugo Sanchez and departing England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson as the favourites for the job.

Martin said he had met with Del Bosque, who was discarded as coach by Perez after he had led the club to two European Cups and two league titles, but only in order to ask his advice.

He also sought to distance himself from Perez and his Galactico recruitment policy whilst dismissing reports that the former president was still pulling the strings at the club.

'People can say what they want,' said Martin. 'I'm the president because he wanted me to be and I thank him for that, but my hands are free to make my own decisions.

'I was always loyal to him, but loyalty should not be confused with freedom. I always gave him my opinion, but the final decision was his. Now it's me and my board of directors who will decide.'

Martin went on to reaffirm his commitment to overhauling the present Real squad and insisted that he would not shy away from making difficult decisions if some of the leading players in the squad were deemed surplus to requirements.

'The squad needs to be improved and rejuvenated because players should make their names at this club.

'We can't just sign players who are at their peak, we also have to sign youngsters who have the chance of progressing and will improve in their performances and increase in value.

'If, after consulting with the technical staff, we have to ask some players to leave then we will take that painful decision.'

The president of Real Madrid, Fernando Martin, has said that the coach of Real Madrid next season will be one of the next: Mourinho, Benitez, Wenger, Capello, Ancelotti, Lippi or Eriksson.

Which do you think that will be?? I think that will be Ancelotti

Just heard this :

Real Madrid president has said England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson is one of seven candidates for the managers job at the Bernabeu.

In an interview with Spanish TV station Antena 3 , Martin discussed Chelsea's Mourinho , Liverpool's Benitez , and Arsenal's Wenger.

Italians Ancelotti , Capello and Marcello Lippi complete the list.

It is going to come from one of seven coaches , said Martin , We are clear about what type of coach we want

In my opinion Sven will get the job , and Capello will replace Sven at England !

I am befuddled by their desire of Sven, surely there are wayyy better managers out there who they can tempt to Madrid.
