Arsenal are ready to sell French winger Robert Pires.

The Frenchman has rejected a one year contract extension as he is wanting a deal which will see him at the club for 2 years, not just one.

But Arsenal are refusing to break their contract policy for players over the age of 30 just for Pires and want him to sign the one year deal, or no deal.

If, however, Pires refuses again its very likely that Arsenalwill look for offers fromaround Europe with the strongest interest coming from Spanish and Italian clubs.

it will be a real shame , Pires is a good player and scores a fair amount of goals each season .

It bemuses me, by their logic when Henry turns 30 he will not be offered a deal that exceded 1 year, i severely doubt it.

So do i, hes a good player but hes a bit annoying and childish. I think Arsneal need to reshape the squad and get in new players, if they can get sio e money for him it should go straight into strengthining the squad for the next season.

it all depends on the players form , if henry is still scoring 20-30 a year he would have a good case for a longer deal. There is also the fact that contracts mean nothing these days , Arsenal maybe just protecting their interests as a lot of players leave clubs at 30 to try and earn the big bucks before they get too old.

Pires was the third highest scorer in the prem last year - not bad for a midfield player. But AFC have set the rules which even Bergkamp has accepted for several years, so Pires should too.

But he seems to fancy a move to Spain, so maybe AFC should let him go now while there is a fee available.

I dont think he will leave, this is just part of the negotiation process, someones leaked it to the press. Pires will still be an Arsenal player when the season starts. Its a shame cos i wouldnt mind seeing the back of him.
